  • Raising the dead

Ok so.. from my minimal exposure to death so far I have sort of gathered that there are a number of ways that a player can come back to life.

1)With no help at all, wait (x)mins and talk to the gate keeper, he hits you for max xp drain, gold drain, and I think I even heard you can lose items this way too?

2)Someone grabs your corpse and legs it to a temple, they pay I think 800 gold and you get raised for no gold loss, and a smaller, but still significant xp loss.

3)Someone casts raise dead on you from a scroll? No idea what happens in this case because... and here is my main reason for even starting the thread... Where exactly DO raise dead scrolls come from? Certainly no store I have been able to gain access to.

And for that matter if the scrolls do exist are they even worth it? what is the penalty forced upon a raised player who comes back via raise dead magic?

I have also seen, during my time in the land of the dead, an option to use a Signus to come back.. are these around? and what exactly do they do?

Bare in mind I am playing an evil character so its possible I just cannot access an area commonly known to have Raise dead scrolls.. but then if that were the case i'd also have to ask why the evil side doesnt have access to such things.

Anyway.. a whole lot of confusion here that I would love someone to clear up.

    Cheers folks!

This might be blind leading the blind here, considering I've been gone for awhile, but the wiki has death penalty rules as I knew them.

From what I understand though, I think the death system may have changed recently to incorporate fatigue. Each time you die, you generate fatigue. Fatigue fades as long as you don't die. Once your fatigue hits a certain level, you are permed (I think requiring multiple deaths very close together - not an easy thing to do, I'm suspecting, but also not something you should forget about).

But I'm not sure what exactly are the rules regarding XP penalties and such with this new system. Are they the same as before? Can you respawn at any level, or is that still reserved to level 11s and below?

    Any information would be appreciated!

There is no gold/xp loss with a player raise. I am sure if this is to change, in any way, that will be relayed by a member of the staff. Also, scrolls used to be had at the Temple of Kelemvor, which was recently removed. Bloodstones needed to raise dead are found in a few places, such as the Temple of Helm. Access to the Triumvirate Faction Store ((if memory serves)) gives access to greatly discounted scrolls. Though, as mentioned, you suffer from the same evil tendencies that I do, so for the time being we are out of luck. As per a suggestion made in another thread, that could change sometime down the road. Until then, get chummy with a Cleric, and dont fret. There are loads of them.

1- wait ten min and self rez from the fugue. Max xp and gold loss. You may lose an item

2- player takes your body to the temple of helm (choice of arbiter's stand at higher levels?) and pays either 800 gold or 2 bloodstones (total cost of the bloodstones is 2400-2500(ish)). Equals less of an xp penalty, no gold penalty, no item loss. Note you do not get the choice of bloodstones or the 800 gp, it takes the bloodstones if they're there.

3- Signus = free rez (no loss of xp or gold). They are in game, I know of at least one quest that gives it out as a reward. I have also found them as loot (very rare), but usually when i find one it means I'm about to die.

4- Player rez via raise dead spell or scroll = free rez. This will cost 2 bloodstones. Since the kelemvor temple was burned down the only store that has the scrolls are the Arbiter / triumverate faction stores.
Butch: "You know, when I was a kid, I always thought I was gonna grow up to be a hero."
Sundance: "Well it's to late now."

        Toons:
        Mittens Whitepaw (Feral Druid),
        Rose Thimblefoot (Simple Seamstress),
        Melody Mourningsoul (Cursed Bard)
Katalina Zephyr (Guardian of the Grave)
Gabrielle Dumoine (the Duchess of Waterdeep... 'onestly...)

Also, those kickass Mystic Theurges with 5th level cleric spells and scribe scroll who can incidentally create the coveted raise dead scrolls for cheaper than the stores sell them. You know who you are

Raise Dead scrolls are only at the Arbiter's Alliance faction store. It's part of our "Make Banites Stay Dead" initiative.

Yes, I'm fine with that, as long as we can get some affordable rods of raise dead 1/day with no material requisites in place. You can have your flame-able papers with their water solubility ink issues and need for expensive blood stones, I'll take the ability to beat my fallen comrades back to life with an ornate scepter/pimp cane thanks - because sometimes mindless undead servants just aren't as useful as skilled brothers in arms. Seems a fair exchange. :P

You also get one signus for joining a faction.

I have also had help with a raise from a DM... there is substantial XP loss there... but at least I'm up and kicking ass again.
                Active Characters:

Death system is changing soon, but those changes have not yet been implemented. As it stands now, Battlepixie has it right, and you can't respawn from level 11 onward.

So if temple rez'ing, don't have bloodstones in your inventory.

I never recieved a Signus when I joined the Black hand..

Is that because the Black Hand isnt cool enough to deserve a signus upon joining? or was Bane just being a tight fisted git?

This is likely an oversight. Contact a DM in game for a signus you should have received on joining a faction.

Signuses are sort of special, in that DM's generally consider them get-out-of-jail-free cards. Situations where perma-death or imprisonment is a possibility, some DM's allow a signus to be burned to allow the player to escape the scenario in some fashion. Hold onto those signuses unless you're in a real tight spot.

Ahh thanks for the info on that Philosopher, i'll look into contacting a dm next time I see one on the server.

And now I know how rare they are I think i'll pocket mine until the brown stuff hits the fan..

Wish I had a signus back on Necrosis when the Brown stuff hit the fan for Vetris real hard..
