  • Losing Items?

I was wondering ... When you die do you lose items from your inventory? Cause Yesterday I had Savage Full Plate (+1 AC +2Fort Saves) in my inventory. I had zoned multiple times and killed many enemies, my character had saved multiple times. Then in an unlucky fight I died.

I woke in Sestra where I found a lot of great items for my class. I was currently broke because I had already bought a lot of decent items. So I decided hey, maybe I'll see how much I can get for this Savage Full Plate ... This is when I discovered that I no longer possessed my Savage Full Plate ... Either the game decided that I have a bag of devouring (that doesnt reduce weight mind you) or it just decided to randomly delete the highest priced equipment in my inventory (Lame).

Someone can pay a priest to raise you in a temple. A small percentage of your total XP will be deducted this way, but you cannot lose a level.

You may choose to speak to the Essence of the Night. It will reform your body and shuffle your soul back to it. You will lose a small percentage of your total XP and gold. Also you can lose random items from you inventory, having been stolen from your corpse while you are deceased.
Item loss is a risk when it comes to raising yourself through the Keeper of the Void/Essence of the Night. It's a small chance, but it does happen.

    The item selection is random.

Then back to farming it is. (sure it maybe frowned upon a little but lost riches need to be made up! Plus what else to do when you're level capped =P)

        You could try Role Play?

To deflect a bit of the snark flying about, I'll note that the death system is due for revision, MoreSoonerish, and that the new system is unlikely to have item loss (going instead for essence loss. At least, I'm pretty sure). There are also whispers that level cap is going away, or is getting relaxed, which I view as a good thing.

But for now, it is as it is. And remember, alliances with other players and DM funtimes can net you a -lot- more gain than killing a hundred gnolls.

Lol, I do that too but exploration is so much more fun. I dont consider sitting around a fire for 90% of RP sessions at second wind good role playing. I role play with people when we meet in adventures and rest areas but Im not just going to walk around a camp fire for 10 minutes and wait for someone to show up and that 10 minutes turns into 30 etc.

With both the death system being harsh, and the challenge rating being geared toward partying, it's always risky to go solo.

That said, please please please don't take that as a statement that we want your RP to take place around the campfire. Go out together! Explore! However, try to roleplay during your adventures. We're not asking you to chatter while you kill a dozen gnolls, however - you can RP about the encounters. Share tales of your victories, study your 'victims'!

I can tell you that if I catch a few players standing about in a dungeon talking about a particular room, or brainstorming about what a certain object might mean, or even just roleplaying out their resting, that I will dump a merry little event on you. Or I'll toss you some XP. Either way, you win.

If I catch you running Argyle Keep 5 times in a row, I may spawn you unhappy surprises. Don't forget the monsters are only the same every time because of our scripts. There's NO guarantee the Keep isn't being visited by an angry Balor while you're there.

Well, without a doubt I enjoy actually playing it like a game of DnD. I want to role play and kill and role play and scout etc and just have fun. There are certain people I stay away from because they just charge into everything and loot everything. There are a few at low level who I enjoy partying with though most people seem to play higher leveled characters which is fine. Though obviously not a challenge/fun to party with people who are level 14 when Im level 5. Im not saying I don't wish to role play, but if I lost an item that I could of sold to someone for probably 3-4k (about half the price of the sick gloves I want) all Im saying is Im gonna go have to grind that money out cause its not like im gonna get on and magically find another one. Though I could be that lucky.

Unfortunately, the level cap as it stands is a huge obstacle to any character wanting to get to the mid-levels. It generally requires logging something like 48 hours of playtime just to get up to the levels where combat is not an incredible chore. ( Auto-attack... wait... wait... wait... Auto-attack... wait... get a snack... ) And then, once a character's level 8 or 9, the increased quantity of XP to level means that you'll very rarely be at cap, and can adventure for reward whenever you want. This is silly, and I'm looking forward to a revision of the mechanic. ( Really. Twenty-four hours of logged playtime, for people with lives, is a lot. I'm lucky I don't have one and it's still a chore! )

My advice to all the folks who encounter this is to embrace the fact that you won't be getting XP from mobs, and let that free you to group with folks who are in a similar situation. Sure a high-level would ordinarily kill your XP, but why not see if you can get someone to escort you into the Climb to get the dwarf's helmet back? Or bravely take some companions to a campsite in the Viridale to fish and chill out, away from the Second Wind?

Remember, if you're at cap, killing monsters won't stop that XP tick! And a picnic lunch is all the tastier if you eat it on top of a rotting gnoll chieftan.

... Okay, maybe not. But you get the idea.

EDIT: A further note: Item prices are pretty punitive also. Accept the fact that these are long-term goals, and you'll probably end up being a lot happier. Personal experience, having spent about 10,000 gold in search of a full-plate appearance that didn't totally suck.

The above post sums up a long discussion the devs have been having.

its all about different tastes isnt it. I have had a chat with some of my friends who play one does like to sit about the other likes the action. Had to have a talk to them both about a happy balance. Its like that old addage that involves meat or rubbishand and treasure.

"one woman's awesome roleplay is to another the equivalent of sitting in the corner playing with your faeces" . and something about in matters of taste there is no argument. hmm.

Sorry to hear you lost the Plate. That suxs, thems the breaks. Grinding and rp ing at the same time is fun, esp with a dm. Go DM's!

That back to farming comment Mournas - cheeky !

Meh, the game mechanics are rarely a bother. Admittedly I'm pleased the cap is gone but I actually enjoy low level D&D more than high level stuff. Call me crazy but the risk of dying to something balanced and not ubertuned to be some sort of juggernaut is more interesting to me - and the environment where that's possible with class balance is only around 8-10 at max thanks to the way the system is designed, sadly.

It's nice to see some long griped over issues being addressed though. That 24 hours/1 week idle thing was kind of crazy, got to the point where I had a vault full of dudes premade like some sort of incubation chamber ready to pick up when they had a level cap of 9-11 ish so I could just have an afternoon sit down and play without worry of running out of things to do and being reduced to sitting around the fireplace of imVu lite drama and comic book serial conflict between the supernatural threat of the evening and whichever good guy was around, or failing that pointless explosions as the wizards and such get bored and throw around magic.
