  • Honest question seeks honest answer

I believe the premise here is explained simply enough in the title, as such my question is this:

Is Sundren accepting of new/returning players?

Let me expand upon this, I recieved an email today stating:-

    Hello, Delexos!
We've noticed that you've not been active on Sundren Forums for quite some time now, and we miss you!

Could we not tempt you back?

Well, in all honesty my answer would be "Maybe", now when it says "not been active on the forums for quite some time now" they are not joking, I was last active in and around Sundren in November 2007 (according to my last received private message regarding any rp stuff).
However, as of late I have been feeling a little empty on my old 'fun-o-meter' and after the email arrived today reminding me of Sundrens existence a tiny little voice, old and dusty in the back of my mind, started coughing back to life. It introduced itself to me as my rather old and decrpit roleplay muse.

Apparently I have been neglecting my inner roleplayer for the best part of four years and the little voice seems to think that if I perhaps breathe some life into this disused part of me, I shall find some measure of fulfilment once again.

Now the fact that after all these years Sundren is still around and Saulus is still apparently tinkering with it is, in my eyes, completely insane and awesome. However I am reticent to take the initial plunge because, afterall, for Sundren to still be alive after all this time it is highly plausible to assume that the player base is pretty hardcore and devoted to the server, forming ironclad bonds between themselves and making joining in quite a daunting task.
So how are new arrivals treated? are there opportunities to become truly immersed in the world and the goings on of the server? or is it likely that a new player will find that almost everyone around is simply too far out of his league and scope that there is little choice other than to spend the majority of his time living a lonely life?

This entire post is purely conjecture, but I think it is a good way for me to attempt to gauge whether or not I hunt out my NWN2 cd's after all this time or not.

I look forward to the replies and feedback of the community,

Oh and on a side note, does Saulus still entertain the community over voice coms with his guitar?

    All the best,
    Delexos

Having rolled up a new character recently, I can attest to the community being very welcoming. Of course, it helps to have a character that's easy to interact with, but that goes without saying. Even a spiky loner with a Talos cloak is likely to get some love, if for no other reason that the server is just a bit on the low-population side.

Special note to the DMs, who often give low-level characters spontaneous events and the like. Great fun!

One caveat: the new level-capping mechanic requires logging many hours of playtime to advance beyond level 6 or so, so you won't be to mechanical parity with existing characters for weeks or months. I've heard rumors that the cap is going away, along with the other bunch of changes.

I don't know if it helps - but reading your post is already whetting my appetite to run you some quests.

To be honest, we neglect the 20's more than the lowbies. I know we shouldn't, but that's how it is.

I look forward to the replies and feedback of the community,
Your stupid, your mother's stupid, your characters were stupid, your roleplay was stupid and Kaldaris needs to be shot. Seriously, after all this time you come back and make a mature and grown up post?! These poor innocent RPer's have no idea who they're dealing with, don't listen to him!

In all seriousness, welcome back Delexos (maybe), haven't seen you since Necrosis.

Since when do I own a guitar? *Confused*
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

D-man, as another player who's been with Sundren since Feb '07, I can tell you that you'll be fine. The player base has changed and turned over, over time. We've more new players than "old," and you'll slide right in with no problem. Do yourself a favor and log in; you won't get cliqued out.

As someone who has been around for a long time as well, I can say that the newer chars have taken over, the low-mid levels rule most of the RP and I see fewer and fewer long standing chars taking the big plot-lines. That in turn, leaves openings for other new chars to step up and join in on advancing the story without the need to be a level 20 with hundreds of hours played. In my opinion that is a very good thing, and keeps things fresh, because this way its not always the same 2 people heading up all the plots.

Well I would first and foremost like to say a thank you to everyone who replied in this thread.. Of course when I say 'everyone' I actually mean everyone, except for Kasso, because lets face it, who would ever want to thank Kasso for anything? :P

But in all seriousness, i'm greatful for the replies here in this thread, and it is actually quite a nice suprise to see names pop up that even I recall from my past roleplaying.

That being said, and especially based on the reassurances that the plot is not dominated by high level characters, I shall seek out my discs and get NwN running again.

I have a few concept char's running around in my head right now, but I suppose my next question would be, whats hot right now? is there a predominance of good or evil on the server? those few players who might recall me probably remember that I had an inclination towards the darker side of character generation, but I can just as easily put my creative juices to work knocking out a goodly type.

I may, in fact, start out with a re-imagining of an old character just as a way to ease myself back into the rp saddle. Perhaps bringing out the nefarious evil-doer Vetris Stratham obviously this time without the vampirism though.

Or I could just throw caution to the wind and make up something completely different and just see how I do throwing myself into the deep end as it were.

                          All the best,
                          Delexos.

Well, we have vampire PCs, so it's not out of the question.

I'd say we're pretty balanced right now. There's more high level evil than good, but the lower and middle levels have a nice smattering.
