  • Ethereal Bug: Notice

Today, a minute after casting Etherealness and walking through a transition, both a DM and a player were unable to see the visual effect for Etherealness, and the player reported that he could target me as if I were not ethereal.

I'm going to make a bug report, but I figured I would put this here to spread awareness of the issue so that other casters don't get themselves killed, and so that other players do not think all of us casters are dirty liars pretending to be ethereal.

Pyras: Red Wizard of Thay, High Arcanist of Illusion, Master of the Enclave's Knight Commander.

Currently taking apprentices, and conducting research.

That's been around forever. Visual effects get killed on transition. About as annoying as spells cast on your polymorphed self disappearing (which means VERY).

But I'm not sure it can be easily fixed.
Annaleen Wiltenholm-There's always something to smile about.
Chani Kalera- Intimidation is the new diplomacy. *looms*

Yolanda Brown - If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But unless life also gives you water and sugar, your lemonade is going to suck.

Confirmed this - as it was me who was unable to see the visual effect, and over the course of some time it became evident most (if not all) players didn't see the effect either.

It's an old bug. The vfx strip on transition is one thing, but the visibility is another, that goes back to the old invisibility being visible and selectable, a patch fixed the invisible, but not ethereal.

But his character sheet doesn't show him as being ethereal either. Shouldn't it even if the vfx has been stripped?

It quite clearly shows him as in 'Sanctuary' which is what the Ethereal setting is reported as.

The missing VFX is a game engine / transition bug, and the Ethereal not being invisible issue was introduced waaaaay back in a game-engine patch, and never fixed.
