Battle Caster and sheilds

Hello, sorry to bug you guys over what is likely a very simple question, but I was looking over the battle caster feat, and I want to make sure I understand it correct. It negates up to medium armor armor in terms of spell fail due to armor. Now, the feat says " Using a shield or heavy armor applies the full penalty " Am I to read this that using a shield applies just its own penalty ? Or that Using a shield reapplies both, and breaks the battlecaster feat. I am fairly confident it is just the shield, but I have not attempted to use it in the Nwn2 engine .

Just the shield penalty from what few times I have taken the feat.

Also, it only applies to bardic and warlock spells. Just sayin', in case you decide to grab it for an EK

Interesting, I would have never thought to do it with EK... appreciate the input trying to come back to Sundren but I am killing myself over what I want to do for my build/class choices to fit my character.
