Abigail has stumbled across the corpse of another player, (who shall remain nameless!), and is trying to procure a resurrection for him.

My question is: does the dead player have to be online to be raised?

No they do not.

Note that players can toggle off being raised. I believe if a player does this and you attempt to raise them then they don't only not get raised but you loose all gold and what not in the attempt to raise them.
