I think the idea of persistent chests in our respective faction areas is the perfect solution...
    Cheers!

I'm fairly sure you exaggerate. There are always rooms available at the Grizzly's Embrace.
Now hang on....granted there might be a few places I don't know about...and I did manange to get a room....last night, after looking for a week! :P

What about those who are not members of a Faction?

faction members get perks, not in a faction then we faction people can point and laugh at you.

Hmm..perks... like Faction members rooms are 5-star at a cheap rate and everyone else is reduced to using commoners' rooms - a straw mat and a chest (of course) in a tiny tiny room with a curtain for a door...

Temple of Waukeen will be essentially buying a key to the back room with one time use. It will cost coin to activate.

Inn rooms will become more hotel-ish and less apartment-ish where you rent it and when you leave the area you lose it.

There may be other features coming down the pipe for others with the need for more permanent residence, and there may not. Either way it's lower priority than a few other systems I have to get working.

I like all that GBX. I totally understand priority too. I just have a few thoughts.

If you loose the room when you zone (leave the area) I see it hurting the crafter who has to keep a room for all their materials.

Better if you loose the room 15 min after logging. That way when you pony up the cash for a room you actually get to "call it a home" for a little while when you are logged in.

The up side to this is others waiting for homes only have to wait 15 minutes after someone logs out.

Other things that would help would be if an inn is booked you don't have to bother with looking at all the NOT vacant rooms. Maybe they even tell you to go try ______ inn (if it has vacancies) something that would save the time of searching for a room, which, lets all be honest is not IN CHARACTER anyway.

My comments were not intended for those who are not associated with a faction... but if you want to make a suggestion then go ahead.

I don't want to loose my room cause I have to reboot my computer, go make supper, or otherwise have to leave for a time. A 15 min. timer punishes for RL uncontrollable events (I have to go pick someone up at the air port tonight). I think a 24 hour RL daily renewal is more realistic, but personally do not want to see the current inn system change at all.

I have had crafter toons make 3 or 4 trips to their inn room during one crafting session and as many as a dozen trips in a day. Any time a player forgets some bit of crafting kit, brings the wrong dummy, dye, knife, mold etc. or the client adds another item to the session or changes their mind. It means another trip to an inn, or it sounds like another fee to be paid to access the temple each and every time.

I think GBX's thought, about having some more permanent storage for characters that really need it would fit your needs better.

I imagine a chest or storage device where you work, so you don't have to run to the inn, which could be as far as setra or the spine, just to get a sapphire.

This could also be accomplished through persistent storage in faction HQ.. In many cases these are closer to craft locations.

The chest will probaly be something along 50 coins at the temple to access. Inn rooms will be cheaper too considering their duration.

So is the idea of having a permanent chest as a perk of faction membership dead?

just adding a free for all chest would solve all the problems, well most of them. shortening the time you can rent to only 1 week would be fine for the ones that enjoy haveing somewhere they can sneak away and talk without getting people spying on them but shortening it to 15 mins leaving would probably annoy people who "use" the room for more than access to a chest.

One thing I've noticed is that when myself and another (accidentally) accessed the same chest placeable a short time apart about one year ago, the UI started refreshing itself multiple times. The problem fixed itself by moving away and resting, and there was no item loss.

If this is an issue that is likely to recur with an openly placed chest, then GBX's stated intent of placing the chest behind a lockable door of some kind is a good idea. This will stop people barging in past other PC's.

Even at 50 stag per transaction I think you would be hard pressed to spend more than you do in the current system. Anyway it sounds like the crafters will still have the option to rent a room. The advantage to this system is new crafters don't get stuck with out a room when you are not on the server.

How many people are there at one time on a server? 20? 30? If rooms were not tied up by un logged toons.... anyway I fail to see this as a bad thing. Can't get a room or wait 15 min hop over to Waukeen.... but I bet chances are you can find a room when you need one.

Maybe there should be a more permanent option for crafters. Guess we will know when we know.
