  • Vampire Information

I've rewritten some of, added to, and reformatted the vampire information for the WIKI.

The public information thread now links to the wiki.

I SUGGEST ANYONE WHO HAS READ THE THREAD TO REREAD THE WIKI AS THERE HAVE BEEN MAJOR CHANGES TO THE INFORMATION AND MAJOR ADDITIONS!

    URL: http://www.sundren.org/wiki/index.php?title=Vampires

If you have ANY questions of vampires as a player who plays on or one seeking to deal with one please respond below so I can add all the needed information and answers to the wiki. The goal is to leave no question unanswered there

Remember, Knowledge Religion is often needed to know information on vampires or knowledge arcana for other facets. If you have less than 10 ranks in either skill assume you do not know otherwise. I plan to break down the sections into what I believe will be proper ranks of knowledge.

Special thanks to Philosopher for taking the initiative in writing the original post and prompting me to clarify other facets.

Are non-evil vampires allowed? I've always thought that the process of becoming a vampire warps not just the physical body, but the mind as well. Also, unlike the Vampire games this server is set in Faerun, which has very black and white rules on what is good and evil.

Are willing vampires able to be restored to a natural life via submitting to a permanent death and then having True Resurrection cast on them?

Should PC's corner another PC vampire and destroy them via Sunlight, how is it to be roleplayed out in a believable fashion so it doesn't result in a player perma?

According to the monster manual they can be, whether a DM would have to handle that in sundren or not I dont know.

D&D has a black and white view on GOod and Evil, which I whole heartedly agree with. However, this question is answered under "The Demon Within" section as well as in "Emotions".

A simple answer? yes, vampires are evil. But the true answer is a great deal more difficult to answer.

Essentially the only thing forcing a vampire evil is their behavior just like any other creature. In Faerun undead are not simply evil as you would expect in other D&D settings. Liches, for example, can be any alignment.

Why are vampires evil? Unlike a normal mortal Human who has a tendency to be neutral, they have a calling to be evil deep in their psyche that benefits their mind to indulge just like an Elf has the natural tendency to be chaotic. Therefore I'd be hard pressed to feel a vampire is RP'ing themselves right if they aren't evil aligned.

As for True Resurrection, I will say simply yes. HOWEVER, I hate the idea of setting the template on a PC only to have them turn around and wish it removed. This comes back to "Are you RPing the vampire as expected?" just as the evil alignment.

Also, another difference between D&D and Sundren is we did not want vampires popping up out of no where just because a vampire bit them. Taking away the act of killing every time you feed makes the idea of forced evil harder to swallow. This is what prompts the idea that something in the vampire makes them want to be evil naturally.

The best things about vampires is sewing the seeds of doubt to the non-WIS.

"Garlic repels vampires? Sounds like a conspiracy theory -- I mean, if people were out to kill Zack, he'd try to convince them that some vegetable, fruit - whatever that is - would do a better job then, let's say, a spell, steel, or arrows. Now you're shaking vegetables at Zack's face, and he can handle that.

They're tricking us, to make us feel safe with coming out at night under the false idea of protection through vegetables, and then one day, they're going to swoop in and kill us all, because we were dumb enough to think vegetables would protect us."

I love Kyle for actually buying into it, btw.

Simple question, Is colibrus the first generation? Or His First Four Children considered the first generation?
                  thanks

Asked Catastrophe the same thing earlier today.
Answer I got was that Colibrus is indeed considered the first generation.
"Sir, we're surrounded!" "Excellent! Now we can attack in any direction."

They get destroyed, which would equal a PvP death for a 'normal' player character. They will simply be able to respawn just like everyone else, too.

Staking and burning are irrelevant because no player can perma another player. Like Kael said, any form of ordinarily destroying the vampire is enough.
I am death, come for thee. Surrender, and thy passage shall be... quicker.

Just staking can be used for RP capture, though (which still needs mutually consented RP if no DM is around to oversee it). But it's probably going to be quite hard to get a vampire in a position to stake them in the first place.
