  • Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep: Skillset Question

I suppose this is more of a question to the developers, but this has been bugging my curiosity for some time now. I cannot quite understand why Arcane Scholars forgo the skill of knowledge - in all areas! I'm sure there's a reason, but they're still scholars (and the descriptions assumes they're wizards). The fact that they're missing puzzles me to no end! The other skills, I can reason with on how they think and learn. Thank you.

Good point, but remember that the Lore skill is sort of like a combination of all the Knowledge skills. Someone high in Lore (which a ASoC would have no problem getting, especially if a wizard build), would likely know a little bit of everything in the knowledge department. Then add in the bonuses they get to Spellcraft, which is in some cases used as an alternative to Knowledge: Arcana rolls. The nature of magic would be one of the major topics of study among Candlekeep scholars.

Can't say I necessarily disagree with you though. Giving them a few knowledge skills would be kind of cool.

I believe the point of separating knowledge skills was so that lore was more meant for item lore or lore about specific items, as opposed to general knowledge/lore, like undead, artifacts, or the planes. Like you said yourself though, it's a mystery. We shall wait though. =)
