  • How things work!

2 qq's. Purely out of curiousity

1 - Does Feint use bluff against sense motive like it should do or is it still working like it does according to the description (bluff vs BAB+Spot)?

2 - I've noticed the swift and silent feat on certain purchasable items. The question being: does the feat work?

I can answer the first one thief atleast in observation from my rogue on the server. Fient still is Bluff versus spot + BAB. This is assuming of course that the higher level orcs in Mossdale and the Veritas soldiers have no sense motive skill and that it is difficult to feint them consistantly due to their tweaked spot and BAB lvls. ( One of the Dm's can confirm the level of sense motive of these spawns )

      1. I'm pretty sure that feint functions as it did out of the box - Bluff vs Spot+BAB.
With combat all hard-coded up to the nines in NWN2 I'm not entirely sure that it's possible for it to be made into Bluff v Sense Motive.

      2. Sometimes. It's a bit like torch VFX. Better than Darkvision though.

I've never seen swift and silent work. Ever. My rogue had an item with it on, and it never worked once lol.

Did you try the buggy item dance?

It is listed as a 'doesn't always work' item feat, rather than a 'never works' item feat.

so with a 15 bab and a 18 spot does that set the bluff DC at 33 or do they get to roll a D20 +15 +18?

Wow, that pretty harsh. I didnt know the opposing creature got a D20 as well. I thought the BAB + Spot ranks made the DC.

Even with epic skill focus a rogue is going to have a tough time feinting against a ranger (or anything else with spot)

                      Make that an impossible time.

1d20 + 23 ranks + ability mod + items v. 1d20 + 20 + 23 ranks + ability mod + items. Feint is nice for juking medium and low AB, nonspotting characters and layering them up with the bleeding. Those seasoned warriors, though, just aren't going to fall for it.

                        Well, fair enough really.

Stands to reason that the type of fighter who specializes in working in unpredictable environments and against wild and unpredictable enemies would be a pretty good at spotting sneaky or false attacks.

Feint is a pretty handy feat for rogues who might be going toe-to-toe a lot, or for rogue cross build that can do some serious damage, but at the end of the day rogues aren't the best choice for face to face combat.

Its working out pretty well at level 9, but I can see the usefullness dissappearing very shortly. It seems dumb that the opposing character gets a D20 to bump the DC beyond all hope of acheiving ~ but then again it is a free combat option in PnP and by the looks of things not a widely used one.

I think Ill stick to flanking

Xbow & PBS works just fine for me lol. It's a shame that the D&D rules play rogues that way, since whenever someone pictures a wily thief, it's usually holding a pair of daggers. Unfortunately that build sucks lol, I've tried it.

                              Two daggered rogues are weak?

                              Hahahahah! You build badly.
