  • Everybody Hostile, All the Time!

Reading the melee v. caster thread, particularly the last few posts, I had an idea, an idea so awesome that it cut through my haze of Nyquil and Tylenol (I think I'm dying). Have everyone set to be hostile to everyone else when they log on. That's right, *everyone.*

I'm thinking that having this setup will do wonders all around, particularly in the area of complete strangers trying to take a nap right as someone approaches them. Of course, if both parties agree to it, they can de-hostile each other (primarily in the case of long-time friends/associates).

Another benefit would be the cutting down of uberl33t spells being cast without repercussions. Imagine the RP that would result from accidentally killing an innocent bystander as you try to slay that foul vampire!

Also, for those of you who actually invested in survival, you can smirk knowingly to yourself as you detect that halfling pickpocket trying to approach you from the shadows!

The largest problem, of course, would be accidental targeting. While I'm sure there'd be more than a few "oops" murders in the first few days, I'm also pretty sure that as the playerbase got used to the idea we'd also be more careful with our clicks.

So that's my idea, what do you guys think?

...it goes without saying that if such a thing is even possible, engine-wise.

That's very bad idea. I can assure you, that I would accidentally attack another PCs quite regularly. Sooo many times I just missclick when talking to another person, trying to find out more info about the person or just trying to walk away and unfortunately click on the character instead of the ground?

I seem to remember a player a while back that used to put everyone to hostile the moment he joined the server.......He even sent out tells to explain why.
                    Why not just do that?

Most spells that are meant to do that already do do that. Fireball, for example.

Exception is probably Storm of Vengeance, which despite being a whole area full of acid rain, somehow manages to only target enemies.

Yeah, that was me playing my orc.

I was thinking that everyone being set hostile to each other would cut down on cheap rests and the wanton use of large-area spells (storm of vengeance comes to mind). Misclicking I'm not worried about. It's the summons and animal companions that would make it a nightmare. I'm giving up on my idea.

Speaking as a noob to both MP and Sundren, I think the idea would effectively close the server to all but long-time players and top level toons. Sure, you could have fun as one of those, but there would soon only be a small group left. Friendly interaction and RP seem to me to be what Sundren is really all about.

I'm sure that under that system, new toons (especially played by new MP'ers) would die many many times before even levelling once.
                              Cheers,
                              Dave
