  • Yardstick hero

Due to RL time issues my current main cannot be played to the fullest ( since he requires to be played alongside his brother)

So I've been thinking about making a new main character. And I've decided to make it a yardstick build, meaning that the character will never multi-class. There are 4 base classes that intrest me.

Since I had a hard time deciding wich route to take on my own I decided to get some help from the community by Poll.

I have provided a background story where all 4 characters I'd like to play are introduced. It gives a general idea about how I would play out the specific character. As the character gets chosen the story will continue from there upon.

So please, if you could take the time to place a vote I'd be gratefull.

    Haven't seen a pure swashbuckler in-game.

I'm voting swashbuckler too. Never seen it as anything but a dip class.

Just a head's up for your swashbuckling hin, I don't think halflings can finesse Rapiers (they're 2-handed for them).

Actually, they can if they take monkey grip. Also, for some weird reason, they get no AB penalty for using MG+finesse with a rapier. And to top off the weirdness, if a halfling has MG and weapon finesse, they can't wield the rapier with two hands--the game will only allow them to use it with one hand.

For more info on halfling weapon weirdness, check out http://www.sundren.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14697.

                  I met Drip the Coward!

He wins an award for being the only person to react appropriately upon seeing an eight-foot tall armoured half-orc wielding a sword twice his size.

I.E Run like hell and hide.
Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:
"Brace yourself, oh human speck of dust! You are made of meat and I am very hungry!"

Drip has been roaming the lands for a couple of weeks now and these are my first findings on the class.(made it to lvl9 recently)

                      some pointers :
                      - the key to surviving is proper preparation, make sure you're always stocked with various kind of potions and bandages. (bandages truly are your best friend)
                      - approach fights tactically, point and click just does not work. (draw some out with ranged, position yourself in bottleneck situations, etc)
                      - try to find a group to travel with, Improved flanking is a really great feat to utilize. The swash's role to my finding is that of an frontline assist.

                      pro's:
                      - The swashbuckler is great as a social class.
                      - lots of skills due to high int, gives you room to invest in different skills etc
                      - high ATB
                      - high HP
                      - no armor swapping for rest.

                      con's:
                      - weak against crit immune
                      - no spells
                      - weak against magic.(especially will save based spells)
                      - expensive way of life, supplies don't come cheap.
                      - depends heavy on equipment

Things I think the class lacks but fits the profile:
                      - spot as class skill
                      - evasion
                      - uncanny dodge

                      summary :
Really loving the class so far, Drip has been the most fun of my chars to play. A nice array of social skills and not great but good enough survivability in combat. I do think part of why I'm enjoying Drip this much recently is as well due to the other players. Almost every encounter past weeks ended in some fun RP.

                      note on the fearless part:
First of all you get extra saves and are not fully immune to fear.
Secondly,Drip ain't a born adventurer. He has spend most of his time on a boat and never been into the wild. Things like orcs, undeath and the unatural tell him to run, it's a combination of fear of the unknown and caution that drives that thought.

(Drip won't be around coming two weeks, I'll be up in the mountains hiking)
                      Current characters:

                      Stark Goodwill:

                      Rogno Redapple:
A hunter who's lost his cause

RIP - Eve Hollows : Death became her
