  • Proper Etiquette? - Noob question

What is the proper etiquette for trying to arrange a meeting with a player, in-game? By that I mean arranging to meet, say the next (real time) day, to team up. A PM is the obvious answer, but you need the player's handle. Is it OK to ask for that OOC but in-game?
    Cheers,
    Dave

I'd venture to say yes, but it will vary by player. Just make sure the other player knows that you're making an OOC request by using the proper symbols (ex: \\ ((text)) or even OOC: text)

You don't want to overuse those, though. Continual OOC chatter can disrupt IC RP, etc. Sending a tell might be a better option.

Indeed. I wondered, though as today for example, I spent almost all my available time looking for someone. When two of us got together and agreed in-game to adventure, I was out of real life time. I would have liked to set up OOC to meet another time, but didn't know what was appropriate, so lost the chance. And, of course only knew the character's name, not the player's.

BTW is a Tell "/t" in the chat window?

        Thanks to both of you.
        Cheers,
        Dave

Yep, /t. You can also select the name of whoever it is you're wanting to speak to in the player chat window (check the "eye" button at the bottom left).

"/r" for the last person that spoke for a tell... yes, after 4 years of playing this silly game, I just figured that out a week ago! (but if you're the last person that spoke or did a tell, it will use you as the sendee. )

You'll also send it to someone completely random if there is a lot of RP going on and everybody is talking lots and lots, so beware of the /r, and always check your chat box to see if it inserted the correct name before you send

Phil : Blah blah, I'm so great.
                George : * rolls eyes *
/r hit the same time Phil responds again, but intended for George... but you don't realize /t "Phil" shows up....
/tell "Phil" That Phil really pisses me off, hes a real jerk!
                Phil : Blah blah blah
Phil : [Tell] I thought you loved me!!? * runs away crying *

But I am great! Right? Right??

                  *Runs away crying.*

On topic, I use a combination of the player chat list which can be found on the red button in the lower left-hand corner, or simply hold-right-clicking on either the player in question, or their text in the text window to send tells. I never use /r for the very reasons Fezzik pointed out above. (The mistell part, not the talking behind people's back part. >_> )

and the circling is worth it, finding beauty in the dissonance.

I never talk about anyone behind their back...

You can also, if you're using the dialog box to look at someone, right click on their name and use that to send them a tell.
