  • Crashing upon trying to connect to Sundren

As of tonight (10 PM Central US time) NWN2 keeps crashing whenever I try to connect via Gamespy.

I've been able to connect to several other NWN2 servers without any problems so I deleted my NWN2 folder in the my documents and created a new one with the idea of re-downloading the world, but NWN2 still keeps crashing whenever I try to connect via Gamespy.

Does anyone know what could be going wrong here and how I could fix it?

Try going to the 'select character' screen and then leaving it for 5 mins before trying. Seems to work for me when I'm having connection troubles for some reason...
    I got one leg missin'
    How do I get around?

Restarting the PC usually works for me when that happens.

Does it crash pretty much as soon as you select Sundren? The music dies and then crash? If so, then I'm getting that too all of the sudden.

edit: Loading up a single player game, exiting, then joining the server seems to have fixed it. You might try that.

Happens occasionally - I normally use the load singleplayer, load multiplayer route...

But! Saulus recently made a great suggestion on this - Go to 'run' on your start menu, enter %temp%, select everything and hit delete.

Say 'no' to deleting anything currently in use, and you'll be up and running in no time!

One wonders why the temp dir gets so cluttered ... been a while since I cleaned mine (890 MB!?) Windows makes me shake my head sometimes

              2.7 gigs....

Should likely clean that more often.

I think that goes a little beyond the simplicity of cleaning up the temp folder and most people are more likely to fuck something up on their system than to setup that correctly.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Temp folders are used by 3rd party apps more than windows. People don't realize how many programs actually NEED this folder. Even *nix has a temp folder that can get cluttered.

Just to give you an idea, a software we have here has to download files to the temp folder before updating services. If we don't delete the file when we're done, temp gets cluttered. Of course, even if our code deletes it, some factors can cause it to remain. Maybe some other process locked it for some reason when delete was called, maybe our process ended prematurely for various reasons (Shutdowns, etc). It's always possible.

This is just an example. Keep an eye on your temp folders!

Would this same issue result in the server timing me out of the middle of a session?
                      Cheers,
