  • What's missing?

Hey, I havent been here as long as most of you so I have not yet had the opportunity to interact with too many of them, so I am asking everyone, what character is needed most here? I don't know if this is really the right part of the forum to ask this...

Really, everything down to Race, class, beliefs, quirks... everything you can think of... Preferrably in a private message, as I've seen too many servers where the forum gets metagamed entirely too much. I have difficulties comming up with character concepts some times, and often end up recycling my characters from server to server.

I actually meant for a lot more details, simply race or class doesn't help me develop a character.

I think personality-wise we're missing people. What do I mean by people?

Those who are good representations of average joe in the world of Sundren. So many people are either out to end evil for great justice! Or trying to destroy the world by making all your base belong to us.

It'd be nice to see johnny everydays getting mixed up in the world. I don't mean that as a boring personality, but as a upbringing and stance on the world.

I know there are some dieties that are lacking and I am working on starting up a Loviatarian movement along with some other aspects thrown in that actually goes through the calendar rituals, adheres to a strict code of uniform, etc... If you are interested, we could talk... otherwise, as they said, dwarves are lacking... humans are similarly lacking... I haven't seen many sorcerers... I havent seen many true druids or specialized mages... And I've seen far too many min-maxed or class-dedicated characters...

For instance, my warlock started as a fighter (and this is a VERY abbreviated history), had a tiff with a paladin, killed her, and was ostracized... went barbarian for a short time until his rage overwhelmed him and released something dark inside... through this he embraced his newfound faith and adopted the patterns of the clergy for a time... now he focuses on being a thrall inquisitor for the church of Loviatar with aspirations of being recognised as a Pain (special priest of Loviatar)... in mechanics this would be:
            01 Fighter
            02 Barbarian
            03 Warlock
            04 Cleric
            05 Fighter
            06 Warlock
            07 Cleric
            08 Fighter
            09 Warlock

So, he's very scattered out which limits him tremendously but fits with the roleplay I am aiming for in the character. I think in the end he will be fun to play but I need to raise up the first temple of Loviatar in Sundren... and gather a few evil monks, clergy, and general thralls or other priests willing to devote to the cause... That is one thing I haven't seen much of... Evil monks... Loviatan monks are called Disciples of the White Rod (Monks of the faith of Loviatar all belong to the Disciples of the White Rod, named in honor of the token granted to their founder by Loviatar and held in the home abbey near Calimport as a relic.)...

            Anyway, I babble...

            Maleficus "Ravenor" Carnificis
"Dreams... such fertile ground for the seeds of torment. I can sense your ripeness and, oddly enough, it is time for the harvest. Please, save your tears... I intend to reap your sorrow slowly and have ages to discover the things that make you suffer... I am eager to revel in the sweet melody of your screams and the melancholy of your despair..."
            Eldraxus Tzyvioq
Mystic Theurge (and Harper) of Deneir wandering the Sundered Valley in search of (and with the intention of mapping out) places of power, ley-line intersections, and other locations where the divine and arcane intersect...

Evil Monks I have only seen one. and why devote a whole monk sect to a god, God worship is so overrated.

Just because Dan can move zig, GodBeast, doesn't mean you need to be jealous.

Though, seriously, we need more humans. Real humans with real human reactions from real human regions and with real human culture. Too many elves, not enough humans. And there are practically no dwarves, yeah.

I see nothing BUT humans, the occasional elf or halfling, but mostly humans. 7 out of 10 maybe

Sounds pretty typical, elves are ridiculously popular..

Well, they put in wood elves, which took over the old dwarves position... who needs a half orc when you can have +2 strength for -2 intelligence and not look nearly as ugly? In neverwinter nights, Dwarves used to be "oooh! more HP less charisma! I'm in!" Tieflings are also common choices because of their stats, and "its cool to look evil" Drow, suprisingly, less common than tieflings, probably because people dont want to look like Drizzt wannabes. Many people generally make characters that will fit in, requiring less effort to make allies, therefor moving to group hunting faster, Wood elves making the best warriors, sun elves making the best mages, and moon elves making exceptional rogues, bards and druids, makes the elven race the most desirable to most players, allowing them to "hunt" together... Speaking of which...

"Hunting" WTF guys? Hunting goblins? Seriously! Hunting bandits? You have any idea how much like canabalism that sounds? I hate the term hunting, people who use it should go right out and say they're slaughterring the poor guys for personal, selfish gain. Hunting = Hunting animals for food, Poaching = hunting for furs and such, so, if anything, you should say you're poaching goblins! I don't know about the rest of you, but the term hunting immediately translates to grinding before i can say it out loud...

Off topic, I know, but it fit in so well!

And for the record, tehre are a lot more elves than humans, you just need to leave the goblins alone and go near teh forest. The thing you seem to all be asking for is a human from a human region, and i already have one of those. Making one because the server needs one, therefor not playing mine, would do nothing. Possibly if you gave more detailed information, not just "human" or "human monk" or, the best one i've heard so far "commoner" you might actually see this character. I'm not going to make a "generic dwarf" because no one else has ideas for one.

I am asking for more than just race and class, please, someone, give me something to work with here. Grigori was headed the right direction, still only giving class and deity, and theres so much more to a character than that. GBX's suggestion was good as well, he likely meant it to be vague.

You asked what was needed, and in situations like this, in a PW or MMORPG, you are going to get basic suggestions like race, class, gender, etc. If you want specifics though? That is up to you in the process of building your character from the ground up... Those should be your choices, not other people's suggestions.

If you want more specifics? We need individuals with evil intentions willing to be followers, not leaders. We need a more mundane type of person that is rank-and-file... I roleplayed with a couple of folks last night and one individual in the group would stop at intervals and pray during periods when he was healing himself... or he would stop at a pool of water and place his palms flat on the surface of the water while praying a short devotion to his god/godess...Simplicity seems to be lacking. Even Maleficus, as outlandish as he is, is merely an inquisitorial cleric in the church of Loviatar... Sure, he has aspirations of world domination.... but on behalf of his church and as part of the directives and dogma... He has a role to play and will play it out. Too many leaders (self proclaimed DMs trying to craft their own story of domination through Sundren), not enough role-players (individuals willing to be followers, not leaders, and willing to take orders, not give them)... *Grin* Make sense?

Personally, I think we have enough evils as it is. We had a building swarming with them last night. Not that I'm discouraging anyone from making characters, mind you.

Like Godbeast said, we do need more 'typical' people with less lofty (read: realistic) goals: average adventurers, soldiers, craftsmiths, and such. Too many characters start out wanting to take over the Multiverse or best Elminster.
