  • Next Update - Scroll, wand, potion Crafting costs

As people are aware, crafting scrolls, wands, and potions has been much higher than the base item equivalents to the point it wasn't worth the feats or time to use these features.

Next update these prices for these crafting features will be based on the item's value, not an arbitrary value. Appraise is then taken into effect to lower or raise the cost based on item value. This is a markup/markdown of Appraise Roll - 20. For example:

If it costs 3000 coins to buy a wand at a store at normal cost and I roll a 36 for appraise while crafting. I will get the wand for 2520. However, if I roll a 0, I will get the wand for 3600.

Remember, it's based on BASE ITEM PRICE, not store prices. Most store prices in Sundren are higher than base item price unless you have appraise. So most of the time you should be crafting under item cost from the store.

You will get feedback during crafting for how much it costs to craft whether you fail or succeed.

Hopefully we'll see more people brewing potions now and making wands.

Okay, this is quite awesome. This is something that really really needed a face-lift. Awesome work.

Not sure if this is the place, but if you are looking into revamping these items, how about changing the strengths of the resulting items based on level of crafter or fatigue. Barkskin potion used by my melee characters make them less useful, for they run out quickly. The same spell cast by a higher level char would last much longer thus being more useful.
I would seek out alchemist to provide me something that is truly useful instead of getting pummeled while I search for another done in my bag.
This might be over kill and impossible to do, but like alcohol, if I was to drink more in a row (prior to battle) have it last longer!
        Just my 2 cents.

Considering the new cost of Barkskin potion is muuuch cheaper, just stock up on them I say.

I am fine stocking up on them, it is just they run out so quickly I would hate to drink one every 3 min just to keep it up. Perhaps a better warning... you have 1 min left on XXX.

Perhaps silly, but I get burned so many times on that I no longer use them. And If I do not use them they why would I buy them?

Perhaps it is just me. If there are any pure melee chars out there that want to chime in to tell me that it is just me or they experience it to, that would be cool.

The thing is their duration is the balancing factor. Basically you're suffering from the negatives of using a potion, but that's what keeps them cheap.

Also, brewed potions may not have exact same duration as bought from stores. Brew uses a line in the 2DA and a value different from some of the potions.

It seems kind of strange to be using the Appraise skill to determine the final cost of the created item. Shouldn't it maybe be based off of something like Spellcraft?

The cost incurred is considered "Resources" needed to form the item. The idea is you went out and bought carrots and bacon to make your potion. Bought gold dust to seal your scroll, or jewels to set in your wand.

The idea is, the amount you paid for these resources is subject to how well you can barter for them.

Would this also mean that some of the spells that wizards cant seem to scribe will be able to be scribed as well? just thought I'd throw that out there.

Sorry for bunping an old thread, but im curious to know if this script was ever implemented. I couldnt find it on news page, and i couldnt find information about it on wiki. If it was implemented, we should make it common knowlegde that appraise helps reduce crafting cost of certain items. It would help casters plan ahead when making their characters.

It was implemented. Potion brewing is viable. Get Appraising Touch.
