  • Reporting PvP incidents

Since we implemented the new rules for PvP, there's been a marked increase in PvP on the server. This is awesome news, and exactly what we were looking for. Everyone having stuff to do without inflicting nasty penalties on each other.

Of course, one of the slightly nastier side effects is the sour grapes. Over the last few weeks, the DM team have literally been bombarded with whinging, whining complaints, which are not in any way in breach of the rules, people "taking the law into their own hands" when they think they've been wronged, when in fact there was no breach of the rules, and a number of other unpleasant happenings which are leaving something of a sour taste in the mouths of the DM staff.

Firstly, I want to make it clear. Sending a PM to the DM team to whinge about someone killing you in PvP is a waste of your time and ours. Unless someone's breaking rules, you're doing nothing more than spamming our message boxes.

Secondly, doing anything to OOCly "punish" someone for PvPing you will be viewed immediately as a breach of the rules, and punished accordingly. The staff are here to deal with rule breakages, that's not your job.

Thirdly, this doesn't mean that genuine rule breakages are not important. But for God's sake check the wiki rules before you send in complaints. unless the infraction is accompanied by a reference to exactly which rule the person was breaking in the incident, please refer to rule number 1.

Fourth, and most importantly, I'm going to say it again. I've said it before. I'm sure I'll say it many times in the future. This is a PvP server. If you do not want to engage in PvP, find another server please. We love you all, and don't want to see people leave, but everyone knows that not all servers are suitable for all players. If you aren't interested in participating in PvP, then this one isn't for you.

Don't take this personally guys, this isn't a response to anything in particular, just the enormous amount of complaining we've received recently.

    We love you <3

btw The 'We love you <3' bit at the end. Breathtaking

I agree. I love the new PvP rules. I'm kind of against the whole IC/OOC warning thing ... as that leaves some at a disadvantage more then others, but I understand it. And that little incident was well played Thief =)

And we love you too, Uri.

As someone who rarely engages in rabble rousing. And the overall shinnanigans of player on player conflict. I like these changes I cant wait till I can start playing again.

It's awesome that people are in agreement. And Kaizen, it's all part of my master plan to assimilate you all!

I kinda have to disagree a lil bit. There are always exceptions, and I'm kooky enough to be one; I'm not interested in PvP, but this is definitely the server for me. I think stating otherwise is overly myopic and something of a generalisation. Having played here for over 2 years, I haven't got into any PvP conflict whatsoever, but that certainly doesn't mean I can't, don't or shouldn't enjoy the server.

Sorry, just being difficult. To be a bit more difficult and cat-in-basket, I should also add that I certainly wouldn't class Sundren as a "PvP Server" in the broader sense.

Just to clarify: I'm not whinging, and if some PvP action somehow found its way into my realm of scatterbrained delusion, I really, honestly wouldn't care.

No worries Juney. You're right--we do try to support a wide variety of players here. You'll probably see more areas that are focused on "conflict" in general as we go forward, but you certainly don't have to use them

I don't think it is being classed as a PVP server by no means...It is just being stated that PVP is allowed.

Also,I would like to add that if you are a higher level character and you knowingly use this to your advantage because a lowbie mouthed off at you,you don't necessarily have to kill the person..Roll some skills instead.

I would classify Sundren as a PVP server, however, I wouldn't say people are forced into PVP. What I mean is there's clearly established factions and mechanics to put people at odds with each other in PVP. What is basically being said is, "If you can't handle being attacked by enemy players, this isn't the server for you." So if someone attacking you is going to make you want revenge OOCly and start Drama, that statement applies to you.

If you're a T/N farmer, obviously you have little to worry about in terms of hardcore PVP. However, if you're a Demonic Lord of Cyric who wants to murder the world, you're probably going to get stabbed by someone at any time. Or if you're a cleric of Lathander who wants to explode vampires, you might get Clive in the backside.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm by no means saying that everyone on the server should immediately drop what they're carrying and murder someone, but if you want to play here you need to accept that PvP is a viable option - not necessarily just for you, but certaily for your enemies.

And regardless of how people would like to classify Sundren, it is a PvP server. This point has been raised a number of times before. We allow, and indeed encourage PvP as long as it's all good fun for everyone.
