  • Yet Another PVP Reminder

We've had a couple incidents in these last two days that warrant another reminder. As always, our PVP rules are clearly stated in the Sundren Wiki. Read 'em. Cuz if ya don't know, now ya know...
    http://www.sundren.org/wiki/index.ph...ules#PvP.2FCvC

Specifically, I want to clarify a ponit and reinforce with a very stern voice some other points.
    1. Being flagged hostile does not equate to PVP fighting. Just because you are flagged hostiled by another player doesn't mean a fight will erupt. It means they are preparing for that possibility.
More importantly, don't use that as a basis for your character to get aggressive. Act accordingly to what your character would do in the situation--don't react to the "XXX now dislikes you!" message alone. We all want to win, but part of role play is making the judgement as a character, not as a game player.
    2. Levels mean nothing. Don't expect to get a free pass for being a newbie. If your character takes action that warrant hostilities, expect them to occur. Yes, smarmy elves and rude Thayans are accountable for what they say.
    3. Never ever ever switch characters to resolve PVP. This is a no-brainer frankly. PVP is about in-character conflict on our server. You may not grief another person by switching to higher level characters for revenge in a PVP loss.
    4. No one is forced to use subdual. Do not tell other players to turn it on--it's entirely up to their character if they'd rather see you dead or knocked out.
Don't forget--there is no longer an XP loss for PVP. Yes, you still die from PVP, but you won't incur a penalty from resurrecting in the FEN.
    5. If subdual is used--respect it. Don't get up immediately after being creamed. Be realistic about having just been knocked out. If you have been subdued, you are, well, subdued. Go look up the meaning in a dictionary if you need help on that.
Given the recent incidents, penalties for breaking our PVP rules will be stricter than usual. Please, just read the rules before you do any PVP, and there shouldn't be any problems. Have fun folks--and please help my retain my grey hairs by behaving!

this is a question to #4

i know you guys can see private tells and all. so, would it be okay to suggest the other player to turn it on? often times i have friendly duels. i like to send them a private tell to remind them to turn it on to avoid accidentally killing each other.

      You can suggest it.

Honestly, I think it's wierd people getting bent out of shape right now in PVP. They really aren't losing anything but a few minutes of time.

In the words of Joker, "Why so serious?!?!?"

Hehe, yeah PvP has no consequences aside from the shame and obvious difficulty in roleplaying your demise. Working out how to explain how you died but yet walk among the living is harder to deal with than an XP loss in my opinion!

It's a world of magic - not to be confused with our boring mundane one.

While rare, it isn't unheard of to return from the dead. And also, there is the option of your killer being unable to tell that you really aren't quite dead, and leaving you to rot before the job was fully done.

I find it as easy to explain as Divine Magic, Arcane Magic, Drow, Elves in general, Dragons, dwarves, Hin, Goblins, Djinn, Lizardmen, Deepones, The Great Cthulhu, Genasi (Your mother had an illicit affair with a fire elemental) Extra-Planar Travel, Summoning Spells, +EB weapons, Hide in Plain Sight, Polymorphs, Wildshapes, Demons, Devils, Solars, Gods, and a massive heap of other things.

Alternately, I'm quite fond of the coma / nearly dead explanation.

Good, I am under the rules. I use to turn Subdual but I expect the other guy if defeated, to play the right way as PL said.

Go with my default. If I click respawn, some guy found me and patched up my wounds who is an NPC nobody can find . If someone resses me, well, easy peasy

This has always been my take on respawning. And not just from PVP, either. Works for just about any kind of "death" in computer games with respawn options.

Let's stay on-topic folks. If you have questions about the PVP rules, let me know. You can discuss your respawn descriptors in another thread.

                      Two more points:

                      1) Taking matters into your own hands often ends poorly. If you think someone is misbehaving in PVP, just wait for a DM or submit a help request here on the forums. Don't exact revenge. It's like in football--it's usually the second person that reacts to the first foul who gets caught!

                      2) Don't call for help OOCly. Again, this should be a no-brainer. Don't use party chat or tells to ask for people to come to your aid.

Would a spell of sending count or any other such means?
