After about the tenth person has recently made a complaint about being killed in PvP, I would like to freshen up on everyone's knowledge of the rules about PvP here on Sundren.
Please read up on the PvP rules - and this means everyone, DMs, players, even if you aren't intending to get involved in any PvP. The rules may have been changed and/or updated since the last time you read them.
Just for clarification, I want to highlight a few points to be taken away from this.
I apologise to everyone if this post seems a little unfair to those of you who don't like PvP, but I really can't stress enough that this is a PvP server. It always has been. It likely always will be.
Now I don't want people to take away from this a sense of dread of impending PvP. If you play a pacifist, then I can't imagine that other players are going to be particularly interested in fighting you. Aggressive action will be met with aggressive action in most cases, and vica-versa. But if you don't want someone to kick your ass, it isn't a great idea to run into a crowd running your mouth off and thinking that either lack of consent, or level disparity are going to save you.
The bottom line of this is that PvP is supposed to be fun. One of my characters was beaten in PvP just today, and the resulting RP was awesome fun. Losing shouldn't have to be a bad thing! Without conflict, the entire server simply stands and stares at one another across the campfire, or grinds mercilessly and pointlessly without any evolving story and drive to get better.
We want everyone to have fun, and just as much, we want Sundren and the stories we lay out to grow and evolve. This doesn't mean running out and killing everyone you see, but it does mean accepting PvP (and the newly changed death exp system) as a vital and core part of the server. With players more willing to fight (and to lose!) in PvP, there can be endless fun to be had, and the more it happens, the more people will get used to it, and learn to take it in their stride.
But for now, try to remember one thing. If you get pissed off from losing in PvP, take a time out. Log off, walk away, get a drink, and calm down. If you start running your mouth off, sending abusive tells, or angry PMs to the DMs, then it's going to make you look, and probably feel a bit silly.
It's a game. It's supposed to be enjoyable

- You do not have to give permission to be PvP'd by someone. If they have an IC reason to fight you, it doesn't matter whether you want it or not, that person is perfectly within the rules to do it anyway. This is a PvP server, and we have just adjusted the death rules specifically to encourage PvP.
- You do not have to give someone time or opportunity to buff. And they do not have to give you time to buff.
- A player has no responsibility to request, declaire or hint at PvP OOCly. As long as the PvP isn't completely stupid and OOC, and as long as the aggressor has set you as hostile and made it clear ICly that they are going to attack, that is enough warning.
- A person's level should never be an OOC consideration whether you are going to initiate PvP. This is metagaming. that said, intentionally and/or repeatedly griefing low level players will likely get the bully killed. Repeatedly.
