You can already count my vote as "yes" for taking out 90% of the visual effects that were 'wrongly put' just to give the kids some flashiness I would even go thru making a list of the spells that should keep a visual effect to help.

Actually yeah, I think thats a great idea. When I first saw all the spells that DONT have visuals, all of the sudden blazing through the screen, I thought "Well no wonder ppl have system problems, lol".

I would like spells to be as close to PnP as possible. This way you wont be able to tell what effects a caster may have on them, cept obvious ones.

Just don't kill warlock effects... Demonic and Dark manifestations should be blatant with the exception of the buff/debuff/etc invocations

"Dreams... such fertile ground for the seeds of torment. I can sense your ripeness and, oddly enough, it is time for the harvest. Please, save your tears... I intend to reap your sorrow slowly and have ages to discover the things that make you suffer... I am eager to revel in the sweet melody of your screams and the melancholy of your despair..."

We aren't talking about casting effects, just the "persistent" ones that remain after you cast spells, like the barky skin from Barkskin, the weird hellflower of blinding light from Protection from Alignment, etc

I picked up a few files on nwn2vault which cancel out some of the more annoying spell effects. I forgot how bad protection from evil was until some other characters started commenting on the 'big silver bubble' around me blocking out the view.

Can you link to those files on the vault?

I wouldn't mind seeing stuff like mage armor, prot from evil/good, prot from arrows, etc., removed visually. Those big globes around the caster really annoy and confound me.

Stuff like barkskin I couldn't care about. It's mainly the globe type ones that I'd like to see go, if possible.

                Heh.

You know, I absolutely hate having spells like protection from evil and mage armor cast on my character. Before, I could rest and get rid of them.

                Now, I can't! T_T

I'd like to see some of the nonsensical effects be scripted out as well. Seriously, that huge bubble of a protection from evil is rediculious.

I tend to think that Obsidian gave in to the lamenting of powergamers, hence the huge visual effects on weapons that trail back about 6 feet and of course the bells and whistles of boisterous spell effects that shouldn't be there to begin with.

Also, I don't know this for a fact, but I hear disabling alot of the visual effects on spells will reduce lag.

Logically, alot of the higher level buffs should stay like Spell Resistance and Shadow Shield. This will keep the emphasis that is supposed to be applied to powerful mages and the like.

I'm a bit more radical. I'm chanting for removing any visual effect that shouldn't be there if you take it from PnP Part of spellcasting is the subtlety after the initial armwaving and blabbering. For exemple, many people won't attack a spellcaster looking like a stone statue. Now, if it didn't show anything, many would be surprised when they go try to hit the feeble wizard and find out he's stoneskinned

I don;t like looking barky or stony... but I think those aspect are important and even downgraded even in PnP. I say they should stay.

I've no idea what you mean with "downgraded even in PnP"... but neither Barkskin nor Stoneskin have visible effects there, you just get a tougher skin The rest is just the spell's name. You don't turn into a bear when you get Bear's Endurace

I know fighter's knockdown needs to be capped with a timer after having seen it in action.

I'd be all for this; in the meantime, a search through the vault will get you the override that at least will remove most of the worst effects and improve system performance on the client's end if it's installed.

Heh, there is a way to get rid of the stoneskin effect and a few other ones... I did it once by accident and had a wizard in my own party cast stoneskin on me twice because he wasn't looking at the portrait symbol that indicated i had it on already.

I think nearly every visual effect on buffs should be removed, mage armor is supposed to be invisible, come on, shield is shield, not orb, the list goes on.

Though, skin spells should definately keep their visuals, if you dont want them applied to armor, or hair, re-equip armor after its cast on you, then equip and remove a helmet to fix your hair.
