OK, back to serious time
I really want to strip away the emotion that is surrounding this so we can find ways to improve as staff and players. As TheBroq pointed out, ICly, I feel there is a lot of new, exciting ways this event could move forward for story. But the OOC drama needs to be resolved first.
In terms of take-aways / lessons-learned, I'd like to point out the following:
I don't want to discard anyone's feelings on this, so if anyone feels they were mistreated, please send me a private message with the details. I want to provide an avenue for resolving problems.

In terms of take-aways / lessons-learned, I'd like to point out the following:
- Set-up for an event is crucial.
Major events on the server will usually have a high turnout. It's important that DMs lay ground rules for proceeding and ask for patience and proper use of the DM channel for actions. This gives us ample time to prepare for any "curve balls" that may come our way.
- Some events are heavy NPC narrative.
Sometimes, plots revolve heaviily around NPCs. We usually have a reason for this sort of story. In this case, it was the release of a new area.
- Communication is key!
Somewhere along the lines of several events, frustrations between particular DMs and particular players dug in. The words that were chosen were sometimes preachy or rude. Looking back in this thread, I can see words that would anger me if they were directed at me.
No one deserves to be mistreated. I think some people are guilty of letting their frustrations with others affect the words they chose. I would hope they can apologize to each other privately.
- There are times things will happen to your characters that you have no control over.
On Sundren, we don't ask for consent all the time when things happen to your characters. We want to create something like a campaign-environment. We recognize this is a cross-breed between video games and PNP, but part of that compromise, for us at Sundren, is having DMs make judgements for character consequences and rewards.
- Drama never helps.
In the messages I've received and the posts here, I see a lot of absolutes ("I never," "he always," etc.), lecturesque, and needling statements. These don't help resolve anything--they only escalate bad feelings and lead to more drama.
I urge everyone to find better ways to communicate. No one deserves to be mistreated.
