    Hey,

I'm just curious what everyone does when they can't find anyone? I realize that this is a RP server and that means interaction with others, but sometimes I can't find anyone to interact with.

Let me clairfy for a second, my character Westandris doesn't really know many people in Sundren, and lately I've been finding it tough to break into a conversation. I kind of find it rude, well maybe not rude, but unrealistic that my character would just interject on a conversation amongst strangers.

So my question is what do you do? I can't go out and hunt on my own. I can handle one goblin, but three are far too much for me (especially with the new 20 minute rest timer) so no experience gain or income. There is no crafting, so I can't create an income, and there are no quests (solo or otherwise). Again my question is what do you do?

I've been having the same problem lately, normally I just try to find someone I know who hangs out with someone new and thats how I've been meeting new players lately.

Hm... if your character does not know anyone yet, I do not see a problem. If he won't talk to people because of some traits of his, then there is one.

Guessing it is the first, I'd try not to walk in on conversations (you are right - it's most often not IC and sometimes even rude), but do something in the near vicinity that might draw their attention. Do not expect them to turn immediately or at all though...

If you have the feeling that a particular group of characters will not include you soon, then just use your rp tool and find others! Seriously... it might not be strictly IC to suddenly pop up in a different area in Sundren, but this is about fun and if you are not having any by yourself, look for people!

I'm sure others will offer some suggestions, too.

I'm having a bit of the same problem. My advice is to respond to people if and when they acknowledge your presence.

I know that while Aerlyn was exploring Sundren University she saw Westandris and did her usual nod-and-smile greeting. You may have been afk, but regardless you did not respond right away. I stayed there for a couple of minutes and then left, but you could have nodded back and we could have chatted about the books or somesuch.

Another way I like to initiate rp is to read over people's descriptions and see if there is anything upon which I can comment. Aerlyn's description, for example, says that she wears an amulet of Lathander around her neck. I've already had a couple of people initiate rp with me based on that fact alone; the same principle can be applied to accents, scars, tattoos, unusual clothing... etc.

And once the dynamic weather system goes into effect we'll all have instant ice-breakers, but for now you can start with simple stuff: ask someone directions, comment about the latest rumors (the forums are great for finding out summaries, but IC conversations are better,) or simply give someone a compliment. (Because really... who doesn't like compliments?)

Combine these tips with the OOC tool to find out where people are gathered and I'm sure you'll have a flock of friends in no time.

(Now for me to take my own advice...)

Well we are working on scripted quests for people to take, it's just taking a bit longer than expected.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

I know the quests are coming and I thank you for your hard work Saulus. I guess I'm just getting frustrated that the small group of friends that I do have, have passed me in levels by a bit. Now its hard to progress the story that we had going.

Then if I see them on another character, it's not like I can go up to them and say hey it's me West *wink, wink*, lets chat!

And Vanilla, that was totally my fault. The minute I saw a new character on that I could actually talk to, my phone rang and I missed my chance.

I just wanted to know what other people did when they are all alone.

Thanks for all of your comments

No worries! I figured something must have occurred because most people give at least a cursory nod in reply.

If you should happen to see me as Aerlyn and I don't interact with you first, say hi and ask me if I was at the university - I guarantee that I'll converse!

I use the ooc tool to see where there are a good amount of people (plus a safe place)..then wander in. If I can join the discussion I will join.. although being a gnome really is something vile to most people that many just leave *sniff his armpits and wonders*

The OOC tool can certainly identify the most populated places. That is one method of finding people. Other times, it just takes a little while to figure out the usual spots that are occupied the most. It may seem rude to barge into a small group already have a conversation, but if you are brand new, it is worth taking the risk because not all groups will be hostile toward you for "barging" in.

Just take some of the things you picked up with social skills. Like some others mentioned, just take something about someone you want to RP with, like something in their PC description, something they said/emoted, et cetera, and make some question or comment regarding it.

I am always willing to RP with people. If you see one Scott Marlinton somewhere, feel free to chat him up.
