  • Semi-Perma Death

So I've been dead for 36 hours. I've stayed logged in, as an experiment to see if anyone would find my body and bring it to a temple for resurrection. Nobody has. Note that my body isn't in a remote location. In fact, its a rather well-traveled wilderness area.

So my question is, is it considered meta-gaming to send a tell to someone and say "hey, come get me?"

If it is metagaming (and hence against the rules) this doesn't bode well for when I hit level 11 - since the only way to come back is if somebody finds you.

If it isn't metagaming, then what is the point of making it impossible to resurect yourself after level 11? You essentially can still do it, you just have to bug somebody, rather than doing it on your own.

    Opinions and comments?

The idea behind death after 11th level is not be be alone. Pretty much that is supposed to be the case in general for most of the "fighting" in Sundren, as the developers have made it at least. Granted there are some char. builds that can go out and whomp the monster populace like there is no tomorrow (this is not the case for you I suppose or you were unlucky ).

If you have any companions that might be worried about you they might come looking for you I suppose. First off I'd make sure you've done the "Check your Corpse" option in the FEN's dialogue. Sometimes I think, even though you might log into a dead char, you don't always spawn a body. And bodies that you have spawned in the past, loose their link with you once you log out - even though they still exist (or at least that is the way it used to work).

Biggest comment would be, don't go alone, and if you do when you're a young level, you'll just have to make up a story about whatever killed you throwing your near dead corpse in the river like Rasputin and crawling out with a massive memory blank into a temple.

So. . . If I travel with others, its not possible for all of us to die? If we do all die, are we all semi-perma dead after level 11?

After level 11, on Sundren, permadeath is possible. It's working as intended. Traveling in a party greatly reduces this risk. But yes, in an extreme case, a TPK (total party knockout) could result in all of you being in the FEN until your corpses are discovered.

But to your other question: yes, sending a tell to get your corpse rescued would be metagaming. Have patience and your corpse will hopefully be stumbled upon by another player. Or, you could make an alternate character.

You may also want to check with a DM if your corpse is where you left it, just in case.

Sooner or later somebody will find you. After a month or two a DM might have mercy and rez you. He'll probably drop you 5 levels and take a few of your items if he has a good day or turn you into a level 1 chicken if he has a bad day. So make sure you don't have to rely on a DMs help too often

Someone is going to get mad at me for posting this, but its all in good fun:

Rule 1: When someone asks a question on an NWN2 forum, the answer is always "Don't travel alone."

Rule 2: If the answer "Don't travel alone" does absolutely nothing to address the question asked, see Rule 1.

              But I digress. . .

Thank you for the honest answer, Phantom. Unfortunately, since there is no way to police Tells, you have a situation where the honest, rule-abiding players (both of them!) are heavily penalized, and the dishonest, rule-fudging players (the rest of us) get free cake and gravy.

              So it goes.

Actually we can police tells, we monitor all server communications and log them.

There is also the chance of finding a resurrection signus, in which case you will be able to respawn at no penalty even after level 11. They are rare, though.

I say, make an rp post about how your guy survived by the skin of his teeth, crawling into ditches to escape a final blow from his would-be killers and was forced to feed on roots to survive while his wounds became infeced, making his legs useless. Constantly the blood loss and infection has kept him drifting in and out of comatose states while a vision of distant light speaks with voices of long deceased relatives who beckon him to walk forward toward them or to keep on fighting for life.

Tome, I just copied this post to my notepad and I'm saving it just in case I ever need it! Unless you have exclusive rights to it and don't want me to plagiarize you... in which case I will feed on bugs instead of roots...
