  • Campfire carebearing and DM Exigo boycott

A few months ago DMs pulled together and agreed that events wouldn't be started in the Exigo for people carebearing at the campfire, and for quite a while, things improved drastically. People would be regularly seen in far more suitable places to RP, like inns and on the road and so on. Unfortunately since the boycott was dropped, things have been sliding back towards the inevitable sitting around the campfire RPing with people who your character really *shouldn't* be RPing with.

I myself am re-instating the boycott on the campfire. If other DMs wish to join in and agree to the pledge themselves, this is entirely their choice, but for now I won't be starting events in the Exigo for the forseeable future.

But rather than just be a downer on everyone, this time I'm going to be reviewing the forums, and handing out a few cookies for people pro-actively trying to avoid carebearing. Again, these are things that I will personally be doing, and if other DMs intend to join in that's their own choice.

    1) PvP rewards: If someone seeks out legitimate PvP and creates a good RP post on it, then sends me a screenshot of the event I will refund a suitable level of exp to the killed person. Be aware that this doesn't mean I'm giving all of the exp back to everyone, just whatever is warranted by the event. Also, rewards may be given for particularly good RP and conflict. Bonus cookies if you manage to get your whole faction involved!

    2) RP post rewards: If you actively seek to further the goals of your faction, or go out on a personal mission, document it in your faction forum or the RP post forum, and I may well throw an exp cookie or maybe even an item reward your way. Check your PM boxes after you post!

    3) Faction rep: For people actively and intentionally seeking to further their faction's ambitions and posting the results in the appropriate factions forums, I'll be giving out faction rep, and maybe even some promotions for people who RP well and post about it.

So this time, the buck's being passed to all of you! Not sure whether something you want to do is feasable? Put a post in Character Requests and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

    Now go forth and Rolepley!

Irrelevant of this, it's a chore starting events there, and people who don't go anywhere have no reason to get exciting happenings thrown at them. If people want excitement and adventure, then the first step is to go out adventuring. I've tried to make it as beneficial for pro-active players as possible, because it's them who keep the server fun and exciting. If everyone did nothing but talk all the time we may as well have a chatroom instead of a game server.

Initiate Ariel has walked the server end to end in her Red Blade gear looking for signs of evil and corruption. .. If no one does anything bad..meh ..

So she tries different tact, hangs around in plain cloths hoping someone slips up .. fact is no one even wants to do more than argue .. She could not even provoke Lauan into a fist fight I give up, maybe Ariel will just start picking fights with the good guys...

BTW, she needs a promotion since no other red blades are on at all anymore, well except Andy *smiles* .. lol

She sits at fire, slowly going crazy from events ...

Frankly, only equus has given the slightest factional interplay .. on two occasions which I thought were great .. loved his sneaky stuff

Ariel once goes to check into Cartel happenings get kicked out by DM, can't stir up trouble .. undertandable, Cartel wreaks havok on local folk when Legion or Blades mess with them ...

meh I put her on picnics in the grove lately ...

Oh and thanks to the DM who did the dream event, was a ton of fun, and to doubt for the undead/verita thing.

Ariel - Cirion: "Glasses, when did you start needing glasses?"
Sergei - Arawen: "Nice to see you too Blue Eyes"
              Anynduil - Elrylyn: "An ..."

I actually agree, in many ways. And I took a couple days before replying, because I wanted to continue my own little experiment I had. About four days ago (just a couple days before you put your post up), I made the decision that Baragorn would not go to the Exigo Camp unless he had very specific purpose to.

While it's a chore for DMs to start events there, I've found it a huge chore to RPing while not going there. I mean this, honestly.

I have probably spent 80% of my time, sitting in the temple of the Triumvirate. Sitting in various taverns. Moving around the different cities like Aquor, Sestra, the Port, etc... hoping to bump into people. 20% of this time I might get lucky and find someone to RP with.

I find myself sitting there and sending /tells to myself so I don't AFK out, because I'm not AFK. I'm just waiting for something to happen or people to show up. I even leave my Searchable on, and I even look for others with the Searchable. People seem to constantly either keep themselves off of it, or the only people on it are new people in the Sharahan Hills, which I obviously can't go involve myself in (too high level).

Even when DMs come on, and I'll be sitting in the Triumvirate, hoping to do some RP, nope. They go off and do other things. Which is fine! Don't get me wrong. At all. I understand I'm not the center of the world, and I don't expect a big spotlight on me.

But I think the fact is, people go to the Exigo Trade Camp, because they'd rather RP than do what I've been doing all this time. Becoming mind-numbingly bored, sitting around in different locations, or even searching the various towns, hoping for something to show up. I would, personally, like to stay away from the Exigo Post, as well. But at this rate, I'm not sure if I'll last in this experiment, for much longer.

Because I'm bored to tears, at this rate.

Edit: I do want to say that [DM]QA did pop in and give me a little event at the tavern one day that involved a drunken man and projectile vomit. It was quick, but humerous and enjoyable. Ambience stuff like that helps a ton. A ton. Kudos to him.

on the subject of searching out rp:

i have a few characters who do NOT go to the exigo tp.

that said it does irk me a little when i am trying to find rp and search reveals a comotion in the exigo tp!

my solution is to bounce about my several characters until something gels.

other things that have worked in the past:

a tell to the dm asking to speak with my factions npcs regarding recent events.

a tell to a fellow player ooc

( granted not the highest level of rp, but when i only log on for a few hours a week every second counts. i would rather an ooc tell meet me here and then get the business rolling if you know what i mean.)

anyway i fully support the boycott. and further more the cookies for quality rp posting and documentation is a superb idea.

I'd say, send folks tells to meet up with them and RP. It's a big world, and we want you to have fun. Make OOC ways to meet each other if need be.

I've sometimes tried to solve that through semi-IC tells, where I have my character ask around relevant NPC's if they know anything of where the PC I'm looking for might be. Sometimes done it through having left behind a message or some such, like a letter shoved under a door.

Though recently a statement was made you can't convey any IC messages through tells. I think an exception should be made for this as it's (at least to me) a much more enjoyable way of finding people than hitting search and scanning the entire place to 'accidentally' bump into someone. This includes letters/messages placed/posted in a secure place with a trustworthy NPC, such as an innkeeper or doorman who knows you personally.

Yeah, and remember--you can always refuse to tell someone where you're at! Totally up to you if someone asks you that via tells.

The other statement was in regards to folks using tells to get around being overheard in-game. We can't support that

I'm all in favor of that, of course if folk are away from the fire.. bad things might happen to them.

ah hells yeah! good point i used to do this more. i really like this method!

also, am i correct in the understanding that spellcasters have access to minor spells like minor sending or wind whisper/tree tell (can't mem the name off top of my head) i have been burning/casting one of my memorized 0th level spells (like read magic which i mem for this pupose) to send an IC tell on occasion. hope im not doing something im not supposed to.

Yeah, there are already spells implemented into the server mechanics to implement this, like the spell Sending.
