  • Follow and Invisibility

So I was wondering if anyone has tried this, putting follow on someone as they turn invisible. In a conflict earlier, I noticed that someone was right on top of me everytime I moved.. you guessed it, Follow mode. So if this works folks, remember it. Invisible mages, don't think that you can get away from anyone

And you'd have to disable it again if the target you are already following uses a potion, casts a spell, uses his hide skill (but only if you fail your spot/listen roll) or somebody else casts a spell on the target etc. I don't think it is really worth the time. If people really want to metagame then you can't keep them from doing so anyway.

It already does a recursive check every 6 seconds so I can put it in there.

We can't really adopt a mindset to leave exploitable things open simply because somebody will always find some way to exploit in the game somewhere. That'd be awfully lazy and it can be a game breaker to the 'victims'.

Well keep in mind, I was being followed but I was also moving and with my 5 MS check I think I failed every opposing roll so that person could have been following the sound of my movement even with the battle raging around them. So I guess it comes down to how you want to view it, was it really meta-gaming? I'm not sure, one could argue that since I failed the MS check my opponent could have been following the sound of my movement.

Technically, the Follow Tool is OOC by definition. It was meant to help IC requests of "showing someone around", to lead them to new locations. As the message in the server log still says.

It does make it too easy to abuse. As it's not meant for constant use to begin with, adding some processing time to it to avoid the abuse won't hurt a whole lot. And it's a 5 minute job.

Well, you folk know best, just didn't want accusations of Meta-gaming to go flying about. *shrug* Either way I had fun and it was a good run for Vigo. Though I can't say I'll be playing another mage.

It's not as easy as you think to follow something by sound. I think it would require a bit more than a decent Listen skill check to do so, ofcourse that's a DM call.

You need to remember there are plenty of people who can see invisible creatures. I have a character who has it active damn near all the time.

Well I can only point things out from a player perspective, seeing how it works ingame, I can say that for my char, Invis isn't going to be a first choice anymore, it has been pointed out that there are other spells that can give me total protection from being discovered and as a high level mage I should be using these instead of a lvl 2 spell.

Yup, Ethereal Jaunt ftw. Duration can still be an issue though, even with extend spell.

Etherealness is better if you want to give up a 9th lvl slot lasts for as long as my invis
