The brief time I was in the public meeting I noticed that some players wanted a “Catch All” Faction for loner character types. I thought this was a bit odd. Being a loner is a double edged sword, on one hand you get to do what you please; on the other you miss out on a lot opportunity.
I understand fully the faction system and why the DM’s prefer to use it. When playing PnP it easy to deal with 4 to 8 characters and make plots that revolve around them, when dealing with 40, things get a bit more complicated. It’s a fair way to get as many players as possible in DM events (well, that’s how I see it, I could be wrong).
I think a good way to solve some of the problem is to stop trying figure out how a faction fits your character and think of a way your character can fit into a faction. I’m sure the Triumvirate could use a good rogue, the Thayans could always use some muscle, and who doesn’t need a powerful wizard or cleric as an ally?
I actually play a loner type character, and fully except all the negatives that come with him. In truth, that’s part of the reason I enjoy playing him.
And remember, give the DM’s a break. This should be fun for everyone, not just “I the player.” Give everybody time to get tings sorted with the Factions, and your time will come.
