One of the issues discussed at the recent community meeting was to help find ways to create more conflict on the server. This isn't a call to arms for PVP--conflict comes in many ways. But I'm a firm believer that conflict is an essential catalyst to good story telling.
Now, in Sundren, PCs / adventurers are special people (no helmets required). They may not be as famous as Balthazar or Mundus, but they are noted as exceptional and stand out. Even rogue types who give no name will find their reputations grow as mysterious men who people fear but never know. As you do more deeds, you gain more levels--thus, your fame becomes larger in the land.
Additionally, Sundren uses factions to drive its stories. Joining organizations like these come with benefits--friends and allies, weapons and armor, and access to treasury or safe houses. They also come with disadvantages--following orders, making enemies, and defending principles you may not believe in.
To pull these thoughts together, PCs in factions will be "called out" more often in the faction forums by leadership. The Cartel may put a hit out on a well-known Exigo PC crafter. The Red Blades may be told to bring their business to a well-known Thayan scribe. The rangers in the outpost may be told to watch a specific, arrogant Legionaire. Or the Triumvirate may be given an order to detain a notorious Black Hand associate. The DMs won't need to be online to drive this, but we'll use the faction forums more to inspire this sort of conflict.
Thoughts and suggestions are welcome here. But keep in mind--Sundren is a faction-driven world. You don't have to join a faction, but the DM staff will concentrate its primary storytelling efforts on factions.
