  • Test: Mary Sues - is your PC one?

Mary Sues (in case you aren't familiar with the term, click the link) are a phenomenon mostly in fan fiction, but they can be found elsewhere. Notably in some TV shows. And almost always they are a bit of an annoyance for other PCs who interact with them.

Is your character a Mary Sue? Here's a test to find out.

Not entirely to be taken seriously, but a fairly good pointer. If you score highly, it may be time to rethink some of your PC's traits. Unless a MS is what you're shooting for

    Annie scored 33 (Borderline-Sue)
Chani *coughs* 61 (Über-Sue) -- not unexpected, heh.
Annaleen Wiltenholm-There's always something to smile about.
Chani Kalera- Intimidation is the new diplomacy. *looms*
Eleanor "Bloody Elle" Lark - Why is the rum always gone?
Yolanda Brown - If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But unless life also gives you water and sugar, your lemonade is going to suck.
    Astrid Hammerhand - Och!

11-20 points: The Non-Sue. Your character is a well-developed, balanced person, and is almost certainly not a Mary Sue. Congratulations!

Sain was a 20. kind of surprising as i was expecting uber sue. *shrug* I think it was the being an ugly stutterer that saved him.
Sain- Immunes Legionaire and Ex-Adept of the now decimated Red Blades
Dane Kensbane- Farmboy struggling to adjust to his new life as a favored of Illmater
Peeli Pebblepounder- Beardless dwarven scout and woodsman
Alexi Starsunder- Extremely young and headstrong elven rogue searching for his adopted dwarven uncle.
Siriandel Starsunder- Grizzled Elven ranger, and estranged uncle of Alexi

        Your Mary Sue Score: 5
0-10 points: The Anti-Sue. Your character is the very antithesis of a Mary-Sue. Why are you even taking this test?

Violet got a 25. So, she's borderline. That's kind of interesting, I thought she'd be more heavily Mary Sue. *shrugs* I suppose, despite being exagerrated in some aspects and a bit of a charicature when it comes to her timidity, she's far from spectacular and completely unlike me.

ETA: Pretty much all of those points are from me wanting to be her, despite her being the chubby, bitter, hapless loser that she is.

                Ariel - 30 Borderline-Sue

I thought she'd be more of a Sue, but meh.

All my PC's are utterly Mary Sues of varying degrees

Oh except Juggra who is the anti-Mary sue! W00t for Juggra!

Maybe this is why he is the most persistant and satisfying PC of mine to play. I never feal like my plans or story can be damaged with this PC. All manner of crap can come and mess his route in life up and it just makes him better and better to play.

All my other PC's I always feel a lot of anxiety about playing like things are not going right or if the wrong thing happens the PC will be ruined.

                    Very interesting concept.

                    Kudos Verrath.

                      Ohh gods nooo!

I took this test for every single character I have played in Sundren which I had liked.

                      Nocte Tempore - 70

                      Elric Bodner - 12

                      John Snyder - 08

                      Tarja Scabbia - 78

                      Kerrigan Raynor - 50
Elric Modner. - "Yesterday I dared struggle against tyranny, Today I dare to fight once again."

lol apparently, Osclow is a 43

One thing to keep in mind is that on a rp server you do not always choose what happens to your character.

Do we plan for some of the things that happen to our characters? No.

This test is best suited for characters in a story world that you, as a writer, have complete control over.

That said, the highest scoring Mary Sue so far just happens to be one of my favorite characters in Sundren.

                              Maia got a 30 - Borderline Sue - rating.

That surprised me a bit. I went and clicked pretty much everything that would remotely qualify... so, I expected a much higher score.
