  • Player Mining Company idea

Ok i got this idea about a makeing My Own Mining Company because hey..i dont like to run around Grinding monsters all the time so heres what i thought.

Id starts a mining Companny that hires people to mine for it getting it materials and such then sell it on to the crafters for a small profit.

The system would be that All miners would get a weekly standard fee + get paid for the ore that they deliver to the Mining Foreman.

Its a good way to make money for New players and it also give them something to do other then charge around Grinding monsters all the time.

I will Give more details about the whole system i had planned depending on wether the idea is good or bad...( so i dont waste alot of time on nothing )

So id like some opinions and feedback from people

    Best Regards Biohazard89

Great initiative. That's the sort of thing the system was supposed to run on in the first place

Yep, it sounds great, though I'd prefer if the details were shared in-game rather than OOC

I really like it. It would help out people with the skill and the people who need the ore. As well as it will keep us minners alive if there is a group of us.

nice dude. might i suggest adding other materials to the company... lumber and skins etc.... i think ideally they would be separate companies but for the sake of sanity... i dunno.

Great idea, more to do, more interaction between players, more reason to travel around exploring. I like it.

I'm really keen to see this idea in action, particularly as one of the starting quests now requires mining skill, and crafters the server over (including my own wizard) will soon be crying out for ore as they develop the required levels of skills to utilise them. Loving it, keep up the good work!

Player initiatives are always good! Who knows, if your company makes it big in Sundre, Exigo might not like it and what do you know, there are more avenues for storytelling!

When you factor in cost of potions, healing kits that a player uses just getting to the mining areas, for the few lumps of raw ore they get out of it... It wont work. As an employee I'd want the company to pay that cost. As an independent contractor I should be doing it to... but then I could never compete with Exigo.

Sure a mage making a cloak pays thousands for materials so an extra $99 (still beats the Exigo price on a plain wool cloak) will not hurt his bottom line much. But how many arrow heads, bolt heads, Shurikin and throwing axes (got wood?) are you going to make?

Arrow makers are operating on a super fine margin in comparison to an enchanter. Anyone making anything with wood and metal, axes, arrows etc. NEEDS to have 2 professions (mining and wood cutting), and 2 crafts (weapon making and woodworking) it is impossible for them to get the materials they need currently and still beat the Exigo, or other merchants prices.

There is not an available enough supply of chopable trees (that I know of) or easy enough way to get to them to make it feasible.

Currently the most well know supply of iron is in the goblin caves, if the company starts mining in there they will be wiping out the population in the hills and caves and there will be no room for adventures. (Yes I know the low level areas are due for expansion).

Next there is the Ogre caves... or more specifically the PC mining company will be mining in the Viridale forest. If PC's do not want Exigo in there, what do you think will happen to your mining PC's? It would be poor role playing for the rangers, druids and other pro nature PC's to protest and even attack Exigo and leave your company alone.

Well its just another Fun task to handle Grant..the Company is already live and kicking so im looking forward to dealing with these problems ingame.

And the Company is only mining and Smelting at the moment...it will expand at some point but everything takes time.

And theres also the Veritas hold to mine...and cold climb as far i know..besides if you look at the payroll..its quite generous but mostly applying to new players.

@ Grant: Well now that's a very negative attitude, and given the price that most crafting materials go for (gems would frequently go for 10-50k on the old system) I would say that the materials used to procure a bit of ore would be thoroughly worth it. Even selling a bit of ore for a few thousand would counteract any costs incurred in getting them.

The exigo is not an issue because they are not now or likely ever going to be selling ore to PCs. They are wholesale suppliers of raw materials, they don't sell on the small scale. Having miners supplying the local crafters on the small scale would not likely dent their profits much.

No they don't. A fletcher only needs woodworking and that's it. Everything else he needs should be available on the market, which is what this mining company is finally laying a basis for. Isn't that a good thing?

This is mostly true if you are doing things solo. It should be realtivly easy and cost efficant to do this sort of work in parties:-)
