Is it just me or is it incredibly annoying that every spell slinging NPC never has to worry about collateral damage to allies? I swear i get pelted by 4 fireballs, and 3 lightning bolts in cartel, thus nearly dieing and the 4 or 5 thugs around me never flinch. Any reason why they don't have to adhere to the same casting caution that we do?

Sorry for venting, been something that I've always noticed, but just wanted to post on :P

The AI is too dumb to use it correctly most likely.

Yea, I figured that the likely conclusion =/. I'd rather see the mage cast buffs on his allies then if he can't figure out when to sling a fireball properly :P

NPCs are at a decided disadvantage. Most spawn in without spell buffs. Having them buff up their party when being charged wouldn't be a very smart AI decision.

The AI code is NWN2 code. Sometimes we have to concede a little reality to get the proper challenge from a fight. In reality, he probably toasted his buddies. But also in reality, the screams from his previously-fallen comrads would have him buffing and protecting those buddies before you ever showed up.
