  • Armor damage

I know im going too be skinned alive but what the hell.

Wouldnt it be fun if armor actually depleted? say every 100 damage you lose 1 ac or something too that degree , perhaps 200 damage, you get the picture. I feel it tiresome and boring that all we have too do is continue too fight and never worry about our armor being damaged. One of the reason i took crafting was cause i love the though of working on armor. but if none ever breaks! what fun is there?

Doesn't have any sense on a PW where only "the chosen ones" have armors greater than +1. While the others we use +0 Armors forever or the boss loot fits on the character class and dex bonus. We can easily buy new ones because they are +0, and for -1 AC it's easy tolerable.

just because someone has +2 armor over +1 doesnt mean they would not be affected. Simply if you have full plate you have aa base of 8 armor class. Well 8 x 200 is 1600 damage . after which your armor is now broken and is completely usless till fixed.
As for magical enhanced armor, granted you will retain the + on it because it would be enchanted, but that only means the material's are still intact. doesnt mean it will actually work for you.

This is my point, there is no repercussion for damaged armor. even in fantasy no one could afford too just throw away a peice of armor and buy a new one, not unless you were royalty or had extreme amounts of cash. Hence crafting is used. If you split your bow, you go too a woodcrafter too possibly splint it or make a new one.
If you bend a blade, you go too the local metalsmith too have it fixed.

I belive this would also give an outlet for all the extra cash flowing around. Hell if you can afford too just throw money away too buy a new set of armor, i belive it more realistic too pay for that armor too be fixed.

The problem of gold being too easy to obtain is pretty much gone, since you no longer get money for enemies that are too low level. There's still some gold stuck in the system, but to start making people only lose while fighting lower level enemies in an event I don't like.

Would also be quite a bit of work to implement. So.. all in all not feasible, imo.

From a player, playing a game, point of view i'd immediately go play on another server the second stuff like that gets implemented.

How horendously oppressive to fighter classes and how unbalanced it would be.

Playing a crafter of magical armours means playing a caster. Crafters make way more wealth than anyone and then if the stuff they are making for non crafters depletes! and needs more gold pumping into it? OMG.

I'll not go into anymore detail because it would just become a rant, but there are a million reasons not to do something like this and the few servers i know of that have in the past done this, found themselves short on players very fast and reversing the decision. Primarily becauee finding your PC unequipping their armour or weapon mid combat deep into some kind of enemy territory, because it had become broken, was just a sick joke. One that always resulted in player/multiple player deaths.

Making armour take damage would mean you would have 500+ eldritch knights wearing mundane clothes but instead having imp mage armour, mirror image, DR/- and shadow sheild to protect themselves.

As far as I know Elven armours are magically enhanced so they 'dont' break. The wonders of evermeet

*edit* On a posative note all those eldritch knights that suddenly spawn in as players would be able to laugh at Logripe when his weapon breaks and starts beating on you with his fists...

                    I'd like it..

Then again I'd also like to see 'Wood to dust/ metal to rust' style spells that destroy metal or wooden items on a player..

And I'd like a HP gain (on any class or race or monster) of 1hp per level, but with higher AC's for all..
And all magic classes on a locked and application only basis.

                      Rust monsters anyone?

I also like the idea, though it's probably too much bother to a) implement and b) be burdened with in game.

Might I remind of rations and bedrolls? Annoying to the extreme after the novelty wears off - I'd expect it would not be much different with this.

No reason to freak out over suggestions, is there They are just that.

                        Rust monsters? gimme, gimme, gimme!

I wear leather and use a bow though... dont suppose it affects me. That being said it might persuade people to speak softly and carry a big stick rather than charging in with their broken armour only to have their greatsword devoured

                          Exactly.

BTW: the system would be broken anyway. Why? because you cannot use the damage that a player has taken for this. Why? The AC you gain from an armor or a shield doesn't mean that you are not hit. It means that the armor absorbed the damage. Or do you think you start dancing like Muhammad Ali once you wear a fullplate and hold a towershield? :P

No reason to debate this further. Thanks for the great suggestion
