Thats a good way about it Kaeldorn, each creature CAN be unique and have different immunities and such but as long as they are balanced by CR they should be fairly equal even if some are slightly better incertain situations! (as would be normal! A lathander cleric is better against undead than a cleric of tempus for example)

Hey in CoA there was only a half dozen totems kicking around if I remember rightly and each one had a theme.

You cast the various levels of summon monster onto the totem in your inventory and then the monster would summon beside your PC.

Between the 5 totems there was really something interesting for everyone.

If the Devs want to do 90 separate summons, uber! but I think to be honest, Druids and clerics of nature deities are probably quite happy with animals summons as it is. I know it's novel to have something different but that isn't really the point of this. Change for change sake is not really mature.

Some basic sets I would propose are:

Mechanical/golum/clockwork things (points at own PC)

      Jellies and Oozes

Undead including ghosts and wraiths as opposed to the physical like skeletons and zombies in the summon undead spells

      Shadow things.

      Vermin (Spiders, deseased rats etc.)

      Reptillian

Fey (Grigs, Nixies, Pixies, sex0r Nymph and Dryads, Unicornz Kick ass!)

      Fiendish/infernal/imps/slaads something like that.

Holy divine stuff like hound archon/angelic type things

Elemental four different themes, increasing power elementals of each type water, earth, air and fire.

Abberitions (Get a beholder in there to keep the masses quiet.)

Might be an idea for a DM to start a beholder cult or a plot involving them. Seems certain people have a thing for them.

      "Give me your eyes!!!"

"AAAAGGGHHH!! I cut my eyes out for you master!!!"

      "Go get me more eeeeeyyyeeeessssss....."

      "AAAAGGGHHHH!! I can't see!!!!"

      "oh..... poo."

That is a good idea Not sure we should put it in this topic or start another.

Current models, and ideas on criters possible then we could start a list.

Beholder cult? well the charactor I have who likes beholders would not do such a thing...though the eye thing is amusing for other reasons

Could actually create a Summon Vermin spell with all the bugs in the toolset

As for totems that would be an easy thing to add that would just require items and criters added into the game to work. The item's tag would be checked when casting the spell then the reserf would be used to summon the creature. Or some variant of that, its not that hard.

Perhaps to get more organized so easier for staff we shoudl gather what spells summon things and put them also into a list.

        Summon criter I-9
        Lesser Planar binding
        Planar binding
        (some cleric domain spell)
        Shadow conjure summons shadow
        Shadow dancers summon shadow
        Palemaster has 3 summons
        Blackguard has 2 summons
        Gate
        Sundren custom spell Summon Nightmare

If there are more would be nice to post them.

Question is what spells to modify and how? should we merge some? remove some? add new ones?
