  • Altar case for the zealous

Description of the altar case in D&D book Defenders of the Faith:

An altar case is a narrow box that opens to form a travelling altar. The box has room for small holy implements and vessels, a small altar cloth and a compact prayer book (Included in the price). Altar cases are commonly made from spruce granite.

    Spruce material: 20gp, 5lb

    Granite material: 40gp, 40lb
Considering there is a worship/prayer ability in the game to grant minor bonuses with use of holy symbols, I think it would be interesting to make an IG item in form of an altar case that allows and restricted to only either Paladins or Clerics to utilize the item to grant the worship bonus anywhere or in safe resting locations once per day. RP wise, I think it does provide opportunities to further display character's zealousness in his or her clergy by praying openly in front of the altar.

The item simply works by clicking on its unique ability and possibly an execution time of 20 seconds as it involves preparing the altar and packing it away IG.

Good idea. This can be included in the way it currently functions in inn-rooms (replacing the .pray command condition with the use of the box) and triggers could be added in various other places.

I'm curious to know what Saulus thinks though. There is actually a minor project planned down the road to alter the current prayer system, and I think this would be a nice addition.

I'd be concerned about this. The .pray function grants a bonus much like the Bless spell.

I like that this idea would open the door for more gods than we have temples.

I don't like the idea of every player walking around with an altar box and .pray-ing before a fight. Concept gets absurd at that point, but you know many players would overuse this feature.

Maybe if it was restricted to divine classes only? Some form of restriction would make it a little easier to digest as an idea

Adding in a class restriction is easy enough and makes sense, I guess. The idea wouldn't be to just place a trigger in every easy to access area, though. More like having a small universal shrine in the open air in places like the Arbiter's Stand, the Rangers' Outpost, Sundren Military Ward, Sestra, Aquor (though it might need a guard or it'll get vandalized ) and Miraku's Post.

I like the idea to restric it to paladins, clerics and favoreds.

Yup. My first post did mention the item being restricted to only Divine classes. Will bold it for easier clarification.

What about implenting deity idols; of which a player can choose to become allied with it. The chosen deity is set upon the character and by use of a praying command the prayer can be blessed, receiving a specific bonus according to the chosen deity.

You can have clerics receive a 100% chance to receive the bless after the prayer,
paladins a 50% and common worshippers a 5%. Just to throw some numbers around.

Once you've got the script for it, you adding new idols is a piece of cake.

However grand scaled idols, filling your areas can be...or is quite irrealistic. You can go around it, though.

I don't know if it's just Cybil, or not... but the .pray(er) command has NEVER given her a bonus.... maybe Ilmater is deaf... if Tyr is blind, does that make Torm mute??

You have to be in a place of worship, such as the Triad temple if you worship Illmater. You should get a message in the combat log that you're in one. And I think you need a holy symbol from pious perry.

You can worship in Temple of Helm, funnily.

In the Triumvirate, the Halls of Worship is apparently bugged. You can't worship there. However, you can worship in the bunker at the Hall of Courage.
