  • Brewing Potions- Yeowch!

Potion brewing costs WAY too much.... A level 3 spell, no matter what it is, costs 1500gp for one single shot. One potion. If that's the case, I really don't want the feat anymore.

If there's a stackable bottle that costs the same for 10 (1500gp) then it's reasonable. Otherwise, I'd like a different feat if possible.

And if this is in the wrong thread, I'm sorry. Please relocate it appropriately.

This suggestion has been brought up before, I believe. From what I understand the potions, scrolls, and wands all cost a ridiculous sum to craft -- Questionably more than they're worth.

I suggest using the forum's search feature and digging up the old threads, because I think what they said was that prices will eventually be adjusted for balance when it comes to crafting wands, potions, and scrolls.

Take a peek in the other threads started for this to get a good idea of what's going on, this is just from memory.

Hmm... After reading some old posts made before I ever showed my ugly mug around here... I've opted to simply change out my brew potion feat. How would I go about doing that legally?

Is no real legal way to do it, or even request it. They've stated that rebuilds, for whatever reason, will not be given -- There have been exceptions, but those are very rare, and usually only because of exploits or bugs involved. Again, those situations were addressed directly by DMs and were not requested by players; its against the rules.

Simply put and I'm sorry to say this, but you're stuck with a fairly useless feat -- However, that's only as far as IG mechanics. Try to think of ways to use it for RP. Work on delevoping a new super addictive drug to score big in the underworld, or man enhancement pills for certain Sunites that need a little help in their love live.

I don't know, just try to make the best out of what you've got.

Yeah, this conversation has been done before. Direct quote from sharringtonm:

You should take this to Obsidian. They're the ones that harcoded the Spell Levels in a 2da. To do what you want we would have to code in a entry for every single spell in the game for every single spell level.

Just so you get an idea how big this is, I'm looking at the spells.2da and there are around 2000 entries in it. Lets assume half of those are valid. Because we have to have code for scrolls at caster level as well, we have to code all spells level 1 - 9. Assuming we cap caster levels at 20, 1000 spells at 20 different caster levels each = 20,000 entries.

Yeah.. it ain't going down like that.
Now what you can do to get this working correctly for spell levels is go to Obsidian and beg them to include a function to pass along a spell caster level to the Add IPRP instead of only allowing us to read from the 2da.

Obsidian set the values for spells, thats why flamestrike and flame arrows are so damn expensive to make.

And no, you're never going to get your feat changed. If you feel like your character is now a failure at life, you can always re-roll. Granted, depending on what level you are, that may not be an option. But there's a lot of "useless" skills and feats around here, and the DMs/Devs aren't going to give out rebuilds to anyone who makes a mistake.

That being said, most of the "useless" skills/feats eventually become useful once the Devs get around to it. Though I am wondering if there will ever be a day when someone seriously considers investing skill points in use rope.

Your response to the problem is a powergamer's response. "My feat is now not going to make my character powerful in any way therefore I don't want it." Your character's ability to brew potions is a powerful RP tool, and he could quite simply use this ability regardless of cost. Have you looked at the resulting caster levels of the postions you brew? For instance I once made a cat's grace potion and it was a level 15 potion, meaning a +4 DEX for 15 minutes. That's worth a lot of money.

This is fast becoming a dead horse subject.
