  • Use magic device for scrolls.

The DC for using scrolls for the Use magic device skill is too high for there to be any real chance of using them as a rogue. I have max ranks in UMD and about a %5 chance of using a first level spell scroll. So the result is you have to have to be about 15th level to reliably cast a 1st level scroll.

The UMD DC for first level scrolls is 28 on Sundren and any failure is a loss of the scroll. In PnP the DC is 20 plus caster level (So the equivalent scroll should be a 22 becasue I have yet to find a scroll made by a first level caster.). Also In PnP if you fail by less than 10 you just don't activate it.

I would like to ask that there be items that add a high UMD so the skill is actually practical or a readjusting of the DC to something like 10 or 15+ caster level (to compensate that failure in PnP doesn't always result in the scroll being destroyed with no effect.)

      I actually agree on this.
In nwn1, my rouge depended on scrolls, and what I have understood here, is that it is about impossible to make scrolls useable by UMD skill.

You ladies are a big fan of rouge eh.

Nobody who doesn't know the arcane arts should mess around with magic! I can already imagine the desaster when a wannabe wizard opens a gate to another dimension. The consequences would be terrible!

Per Sean's reply, any changes to the mod are on hold. If the powers that be agree that this is something to tweak, we won't see the change until the larger issue is resolved.

I somewhat agree, considering that its extremely difficult to get a character to level 15 nevermind over 15, and even still, scroll DCs would remain very rough to deal with.

However, at the same time, if scrolls are such a huge part of your character's strategy, why not take a level of wizard? Thats going from impossible scrolls to always succeeding on them, which itself is pretty silly. So its not like there isn't a real easy way around it already. Sure you lose a level of your rogue, but honestly if you're using scrolls so much, or wanting to be reliant on them, you're not a classic rogue anyways.
