  • Stat Rolling

I made this suggestion to an old NWN1 server I liked... and got banned for it somehow o.O?

Is it possible to script in PNP style dice rolling ability scores?

It could make for some interesting new Race/class characters, unusual things like Teifling bards Half-orc Wizards Half-ling Barbarians (Unfortunately no one will play the underpowered Half-elf... but what else is new).

Just wondering if we could try it out.

The issues with stat rolling is surpassing the 32 point character and folks re-rolling until they got something epic. You could manually roll the dice until you get someone less than a 32 point character and then add the difference as it pleases you, but that's not really the same, is it?

I've looked for a random stat allocator, one that would be similar to rolling for your stats, but would always provide a 32 point character. So far, no dice (pun not intended). I'll ask again on the Bioware forums. Such a program would be handy.

Sorry, I'm not modifying the Obsidian Default GUIs to do this.

It is possible, and it can be done, but the IQ level to do it is about 100 points higher then mine and the amount of time to rebuild this default system from obsidian would be meausred in months not hours.

I must say you're taking this all very well, last time I asked about this I got banned.

While yes you can sit there until you get all 18's but I've sat on IWD2 for over half an hour and the best I got was 42 (And remember in IWD2 it only costs one point to go from17 to 18)

Normally I get a decent score and keep it that way just for rp, so then I can say yeah hes strong and hearty with 18str and 17con but hes kinda stupid int 10 and easily controlled wis 7.

Best I've ever rolled in PNP was five 18's and a 17

It falls down to weather you're going to rp or powergame, if you're gonna powergame you don't need high stats just grab a human take one level in wizard and the rest in fighter take off your full plate cast mage armor and protection from evil then re-equip your armor and sheild with luck of heroes you should now have ac 25 at lvl 2, take another two levels in wizard you got bulls str and bears con and youre laughing.

Last time I had a Teifling warlock (Who kicked ass) his cha was only 12 but at lvl 1 his dex was 22 thanks to the leaps and bounds spell.

While yes you can use the dice rolls to make ridiculously powerful characters you don't need the dice, it would just help those that want to rp something different.

If you're a Teifling and roll an 18 put it in your cha and become a sorcerer or bard.

Fair enough, just thought I'd ask.

If I can find a separate program to roll stats without breaking the 32 point character rule, I'll be sure to let you know. It seems the simplest, most reasonable solution to the situation.

No the whole point actually WAS to get more than the 32 points... sorry for the misconception. :P

Oh. In that case, that's a highly, highly exploitable set-up, one not to be implemented, even if it could be.

One trick is to just play a mediocre build of a character but RP really well, then wait for the DMs to bestow extra coolness upon you.

Dude, you gave away my secret! That was classified! Next your gonna tell em that if your PC's highest stat is 16, your almost guaranteed to get 100% more DM time then anyone of 17 or higher! SHHHHHHHHHH!

                        Stat rolling is broken anyhow.
"Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man."
