  • Wet and Smelly at Exigo

I've always found Exigo to be an odd place to "hang out." We all use it--it's close, easy to access, and a known location to run into folks. But we have tons of bars that go unused, where it's dry and would really make more sense for RP.

I'm suggesting we implement a chance of getting sick for those who hang out at the campfire. A small percentage chance, but contracting a disease might serve as useful encouragement to usher folks indoors.

what about a bar/pub/inn that is it's own zone?

It wouldn't serve much purpose except for an IC "hang-out", but that would be the point, no? Could implement a jimmy's dice den sort of deal that people don't have to zone into a city to get to?

Just my 2 cents. And I want my peny back!

The number one suspect: Area Transitions.

We've had a lot of people asking "why aren't inns used?" before. But the Exigo camp is a natural locus of activity, because it is zero transitions away from the arms merchant, one transition away from merchants who will buy anything, and is immediately adjacent to world map transitions.

We'd all like to feel better about hanging out at inns. But as it is, they're all out of the way, and in the end they cause us to spend more time staring at loading screens and cursing at transition crashes.

I think the campfire would lose its appeal if it was made a NON free rest place.

I hardly use that campfire for free resting...it's just not very RP-ish.

Exigo does seem to be a good focus for a lot of reasons, transitions, merchants and all..

Rather than running the risk of Ebola or botulism or some other foul illness maybe an intrepid merchant could take advantage of the lucrative market to be had there; a few tents, canopies and shelters around the fire, stick a bar in one and call it 'The Outside Inn' or some such..

I personally think that if you want to move people to a different location, then a better and more convenient one needs to be made opposed to penalizing us for the one we already have.

The Trade Post can get annoying at times, but in reality it's a blessing. The one place everyone hangs out at when they want to RP. With anyone. Given the Exigo's neutral stance, you have a common ground to RP with a wide variety of people - Enemies, friends, strangers, so forth. Hang around long enough and you'll see them all.

When something is going on and I need a group of adventurers? If I need to find people to help me out? I know exactly where to go and ask.

Hooooweeever. Trade Post RP can get very stale, and quickly. Every now and again I try to rustle everyone up that's around it and bring them somewhere for no other reason than a change of location, but.. I'm not so clever and not everyone cares to follow.

Take what I can get, I guess.

I don't know anything about mapping but: Is there any way to make a world map transition inside of a building? You could make one on the map that goes directly into a tavern and then people might go there instead...

                Just an idea.

Not to rain on everyone fire (no pun intended)......, but isn't there a trade post right up the hill from the campsite with lots of room inside?

This was my immediate reaction upon reading this. Make a pimped out inn thats accessable directly from and to the world map. Problem (likely) solved.

That's all nice and good in theory, but nobody actually bothers to go up there because it's yet another transition...and because everybody ELSE congregates at the campfire and you'd just miss out on RP opportunities.

It's Osclow's job to plug himself into the social pipeline to learn whatever he can and put it to better use for his allies, so the campfire is a necessary place to go every now and then. Regardless of his 'job', I believe as of late I have found myself going more often to the Comfort. I go there with Os, even when no one is around and stay there sometimes for long periods of time (it is difficult for me to get bored).

There is an IC reason for this as well though. Many high-class citizen frequent the Comfort (at least that is what I picked up from it). People of wealth are sometimes more likely to overhear rumors and gossip for whatever reasons (nothing better to do, have something to gain, etc). Of course, finding the difference between what is a possible fact and what is total B.S. is part of Osclow's job. Sure they are all npcs, while the guys around the Exigo campfire are pcs, but I have to stay in character.

I believe many people would frequent the Sundren City taverns if they actually felt any safer there than the Exigo Trading Post. Seems no matter where you go, you are in danger to a small army of rampaging shadows clawing your face of. So, might as well go where the shopping is convient lol. Damn Watch.

(P.S. The "local hang-out inn" suggestion was not a bad idea. Have some ex-adventurer bad ass running it who is totally neutral in the whole good vs. evil thing and wants nothing to do with either side; only wants to run his/her bar and will throw you out on your ass if you cause trouble in it.)

I think we've covered the problems. There needs to be an inn directly accessible from the world map. You'll never get anyone to gather at inns otherwise. Making the Exigo Post undesirable is an extremely backwards solution, the only up side is that it saves the devs work. Not acceptable even as a temporary patch, in my opinion.

On the concept of resting areas, I'd love to see those changed. I don't know if this is possible, but changing them from a miracle 5 second cure, alter them to simply lower the resting timer from 10 minutes to 1 minute, and heal twice as many hit points. They would still give you spells. Save the insta-heals for paid inn rooms.

Saulus has chimed in on the Exigo vs. City areas and inn's before, I'd consider this fairly dead horse. Things will most likely change when all of the systems have been fully implemented, such as quests, etc. Hopefully he will chime in again so this can be put away for now. Also, if you spend a few minutes scouring the forums you should be able to find his opinion as well, I would post it here, but where's the fun in that?
