On another server I go to, there's an OOC area after you make your character where you could outfit him/her with the appropiate gear. The merchants who sell the stuff buy and sell at the same value, so you don't get swindled out of money. I think this might be a good idea on Sundren - many times I've spent money on robes or clothes, only to find that they're hideous and have to chuck them out because merchants refuse to buy them back.
Perhaps it's not entirely relevant now, but could it be considered in the future if we get more different looks in armours?
