  • epic corporals??

So I wanted to explore Sundren a little and decide to check out the lovely Schild Mountains for a nice hike. I noticed the arrows and the blood signifying battles being fought there but I decided that it wasn't going to ruin my hike. Nonetheless, I put up my defensive spells and continued on my walk.

I was then ambushed by some Veritas Corporals and Archers guarding the hike trail and I was beat down to death within a matter of seconds.

I looked at the combat log and I think they were hitting with a +25 to hit and damage was in the high teens (for crossbows!). (Isn't that epic-level bonus to hit?)

This was of course not a hike for the casual stroller but I then realized that these guys will auto-hit anyone who don't have an obnoxious amount of AC. (In this server, it seems really difficult). Even with improved combat expertise, the thirties is a hard AC to get for some.

    My question/request is two-fold:
    1) Can we make these guys a little more manageable? I.e. If a really high to-hit is necessary, can we just make them damage a little less? (I'd love to have their crossbows! --- I don't think the arcane archer I'm trying to build will get that high a damage.). To offset, You can just add more of them around. Or they may be easy to kill? (easy to hit or not uber amounts of hp)
    2) Can we not call them corporals? I'm in the military and having a corporal (I don't care if he's Special Forces) beat me down to that degree is just humiliating. Call them Epic Guards or something.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents --- which doesn't buy anything nowadays. The epic class to-hit bonus may be necessary (I don't know because I'm not even close enough for it), but please call them something else. Like I said, it's plain embarassing to be beat down by a corporal to that degree. :P

You just tried soloing in one of the most well defended hostile fortresses in Sundren. End of story.

    Sorry to burst your bubble.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

You're probably happy to know that their resident human catapult wasn't there at the time. It would have made things worse.

That said, the mountain is supposed to be tough, as I understand it. It's the toughest area on the server at the moment, and is supposed to scare the **** out of you. In a group of three, though, it is a manageable area, and I've witnessed a lot of people make their way up the hill without having powerbuilt characters.

And as for the corporal thing, remember that authority does not necessarily equal asskicking.

i concur. but these are epic corporals! (as per the thread title) they should be named so. *grin* something like "I'm-a-kick-butt-super-elite-corporal-so-don't-even-try-to-solo-me".

No bubble burst. I figured as much as soon as I died. The big boys need a place to go too. I guess I was just curious if anyone was able to handle them still. Kangleton's response about his witnessing a group go up there is enough for me.

I'm still pitching the concept of renaming them however. It won't break my heart but if they're to strike fear, their name should be a little more "fear"some. (No hit against corporals out there, I used to be one myself)

Anyway, glad to hear that I don't have to be a power-gamer to eventually conquer the mountain (with A LOT of friends *grin*).

Hehe, that reminds me of the first time I went there. I was level 3 or so, and didn't know what the place was about. Walk up the hill "SMACK SMACK" die...hah, was pretty funny.

My character went back there at level 6 or so with two other people. He survived through most of it until the end, so seems fair. One of the people I was with is like death on wheels though so..might not be the best experience to reference from.
