  • 1-handed weapon mastery

I recall something in BG2 that allowed you to gain some bonus by using a 1-handed weapon with nothing in your off hand. I believe it was a small AC bonus, and increased threat.

Do you believe something like that could be incorporated into NWN2? This is more a curiousity than a suggestion.

The only classes I can see truly benefiting from this is duelist and maybe some rogue and weapon master builds.

In NWN2, if you use a 1H weapon by itself, the character will wield it 2H regardless and you get x1.5 Str bonus with power attacks...or something like that.

    Pericles Redfoot

It works with medium and large weapons - with nothing in other hand yougrab the weapon 2H and get 1.5 Str bonus to damage.

But I remember that there was a class in BG that had a feat ... but it was sa class feat not somethin you can pick I think. It was extra AC from 1H fighting.

That class was Kensai (fighter kit). As far as i remember you couldn't use any armor but i think you got some nice feats instead. I really liked that class...*sighs*...the good old days...

Yeah, the Kensai! But I reckon the feat Silas means was available to everyone (3 points for most classes, 5 for warrior ones). Can't remember what it did though. Wasn't B.G. AD&D 2.5 (a sort of bastardised version of 2nd ed made by WotC when they bought out TSR).

It was a special proficiency you could put points in - it gave bonus AC as long as you're wielding a 1H weapon without shields or anything.

That would be a pretty cool concept to put in. atm there's not much point to wield a longsword with 2H when you could wield a greatsword and still get that x1.5 and also a better damage die.

well...being able to wield a one handed weapon with two hands was one of the things in NWN2 that made me really happy. Why? Of course you do more damage with a great axe or greatsword. But i don't like the idea of traveling through the lands with a greataxe on my back (or a fullplate and a towershield for that matter). It is a matter of style.

And when you have specialized in a one handed weapon you can decided whetter you want to do more damage or whether you need more AC and want to use a shield without switching to a weapon you haven't specialized in. And let us be honest: greatswords and especially greataxes look stupid in NWN2 (the most important aspect )

I believe that was the 1-handed weapon fighting style.

In addition to weapon proficiencies BG2 also had skill points that you could put in to style proficiencies. Each rank would essentially lower a negative (such as the two weapon fighting feat) or impart a bonus and extra attacks per round, I believe at a certain number of points put into one handed fighting proficiency it would impart an ac bonus.

Basically I am thinking you would gain an AC bonus while wielding a 1-handed weapon, and STILL hold that weapon with both hands (Getting the STR 1.5 bonus)

                        Basicially a greatsword vs. a longsword would be 2D6 vs 1D8 +1AC +1 to threat -1 feat

                        Something to that effect.
