People can talk about smelliness on the forums if they want. I tend to use smell in my descriptions (probably because I've been running a whole load of plague related plots of late, and it just makes sense to do that). Having a 'smell skill' seems like overkill though. People don't try to use half the skills they already have, and don't neccesarily take the ones they try to RP out. If players wish to use their proboscises to pursue their objectives, I'm happy to run with it

As to survival and track, I use smell as part of that skill. Realistically, how would a ranger know that there are critters in the next room or hundreds of feet away? I roll tracking, smell, and a "sense" into his ability to be able to know what creatures are around him.

As in "Do you smell that? Smells like Orcs and not just one."

So I would say that smell, at least how it would be used the most, would be rolled into survival and tracking, especially since you can use the skill indoors also, which probably would include more smell and sense that looking at tracks, unless they are boot marks.

if we plan on implementing a smell skill there should be some drawback to it.

like what if you run into a smelly half-orc/half-dwarf that smells worse than he looks.

you should take damage if your smell skill makes it's check.

Half-Orcs smell all the time anyway. If you cannot smell them, then your olfactory abilities are very, very poor

Personally, I don't really think a 'smell' skill would add all that much. I find it much more logical to just make a wisdom check based on your capability to identify a certain odor.

Now, sense motive on the other hand.. I see no reason why that shouldn't be included as an extra skill. Particularly on an RP server where lies and persuasion are used fairly often.
