  • Why do clothes weigh so much?

This sort of ties in with my disguises thread - need to carry a lot of clothes around so I can change on a whim .

It just occurred to me that my inventory states I'm carrying nearly 60 lbs of stuff. I looked through my inventory - and didn't notice a single piece of armor. I kept examining things until, I noticed, my Commoner's Tunic weighs 10 lbs. Same with my Cleric's Outfit, or my Assassin's Garb.

So, I feel the need to ask, do four shirts, four pairs of pants, and four sets of shoes weigh as much as a suit of fullplate?

I literally set out to put some clothes on the bathroom scale. It barely registered. I tried putting shoes on there, because many of those clothes come with a custom set of boots or some such. It came up about 2 lbs. I then started throwing as much crap as I could fit on there - belts, watches, even my wallet filled with change. It wasn't 10 lbs. It was barely over 5.

Think about it - could you pick up a 10 lb. dumbbell and say you have that much weight spread through your entire body?

So, I have raised the concern that clothes weight a bit too much - in an epic campaign to preserve my disguises!

Well... I could but then again I also wear 20 pound leg weights, and fairly heavy clothes.

While we are on the subject of clothes, I think all the clothing, boots, gloves, hoods ect. That are worth nothing should be removed from the loot tables. They get dropped, They get picked up maybe 1 time in 1000 (when someone rarely finds something they want to wear around the campfire) so they sit around and there are dozens of loot bags on the ground. I don't know much about computers, but my feeling is thats probably not helping server performance, and the drops serve no real purpose as you can't sell them for anything (never mind how much they would have to be worth for you to lug them around at 10 lbs each). Move all the fashion items to merchants (While you are at it as much as you feel like increasing the variety of appearances out there the better) and when kill a monster automatically assume players won't pick up something with no value, lower the number of drops, but make them worthwhile items. Just my 2 cents worth.

Yeah, it used to be one pound as Tass said. I had to throw off so much clothing when it turned back to 10.. GBX said something about overrides or something.

The bags that lay all around the area are cleaned on a regular basis. If an area is clear of characters for a set time, then the area is cleaned of dropped items.

At least that is how I think it works. So having all those bags isn't really a big deal, they will disappear eventually.

I'd like to know for sure if loot bags go away on their own or not. I pick up everything I can carry out of a sense of responsibility to be a good player and throw it away when I get to town. Can I quit bothering?

                    Oh, well then.

I suppose this thread isn't very useful anymore.

I believe the staff has already said many times that they disappear. A shame, loads of people forget to pick up cool stuff like gold necklaces. I remember long time ago someone forgot to pick up a +4 Cha ring when those stuff first came out, heh.
