  • True-Seeing

True Seeing does not, in DnD 3.5 allow the caster to automatically see characters in hiding. I think this implementation in NwN2 is extremely unbalancing as far as stealth goes... I believe it would be a step in the right direction if it was modified to perhaps grant a bonus to spot/listen, but remove the automatic detection.

True seeing being a bounus to Spot makes sense, but not listen.

This issue is common on PWs. Also the issue of Invisiblilty being perfect.

Shouldn't Invisibility only grant a +25 to Hide, but let you move at a normal rate- or something? Doesn't make you any quiter. People could still see you tromping through mud puddles, and pushing aside tall weeds, etc.

Yep, yep. Comes up all the time.

Also, when the place itself is crowded, like lets say theres people talking and walking around, its annoying when people beat the move silently check then say "Oh, wow. Theres someone invisible here."

How would you know who made the noise? >>. Theres other people talking and moving.

Here's my official statement so I can nip this in the butt before this turns into a 10 page thread why everyone thinks X or Y should be done.

We have no plans to change how true seeing works. Period. If this changes you will know, also if you didn't hear it from me, it's not happening.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

I'd like to point out that hiding is still very very abstract. People are still capable in NWN 2 of some things that wouldn't be allowed in PNP, at least not by a sane DM.

Some examples, sneaking right up in front of someone, or between someone and a light source, especially in broad daylight! Or if someone casts light on you, don't sneak, even if you can! And how do you think sneaking works in an open, short-grass field? Its all things which should have a serious negative modifier to hide, but the game can't handle all those things.

So keep it in mind that hide is still very powerful, and true sight is not a spell that can be persisted or kept up constantly so its not really nearly as big of an issue as it seems.

                    True Seeing
                    Caster Level(s): Cleric 5, Druid 7, Wizard / Sorcerer 6, Knowledge 4, Animal 4
                    Duration: 60 Seconds / Level

It's a helluva powerful spell, given the duration, if it allows hidden people to be seen as well as invisible ones. But... it's not available to necromancers, who probably form a fairly large proportion of the high level wizards on the server, so fear not! Also, there no reason why people can't agree to RP it as being a bonus to spot checks, etc, if they agree to do so!

((Apologies for Italics, but they won't go away for some reason...))

Agreed. I think that this is another one of those things you have to take a bit of a leap of faith with because it doesn't work so well in a CPRG.

The beauty of PnP is that if you want to go sneaky the DM can invent a series of objects for you to hide behind 'off the cuff.' For example if you were in the Sharahan Hills there might be a convienient series of rocks to hide behind while you sneak up to your target. This just can't be done in a computer game so if someone does sneak up on me in an area that doesn't look like they should, I just have to suspend my willing disbelief.

Of course this should work the other way and the sneaker has some responsibility *not* to sneak in ridiculous situations.
