I have just read through the 1002 posts regarding grinders and thought I would add my two cents.. sorry to all of you who are tired of reading about it.
Please keep in mind that certain caracters, as with certain people, are not friendly and outgoing. Is a reclusive wild elf going to walk up to a camp fire surround by humans and say "greetings", I think not. Or is a dwarf going to lend his services to a party of elves upon first meeting, not likely.. I have been pm'ed a time or two for not greeting people that my character simply wants nothing to do with.. why would I greet them? Do you walk down the street saying hello to everyong you meet?
Some suggestions. Why dont you make all the bosses/ cheifs a "quest" that needs to be assigned by certain NPC's that are scattered around Sundren. You form your party, go talk to the required NPC, and receive a key or trinket that unlocks a door that grants access to the dungeon / area that the quest exists.. Once the quest has been assigned to a certain party it is unavailable to any other players until they are completed, defeated, or perhaps a certain amount of time passes. This would prevent characters from farming certain areas, and avoid other characters running past you in a dungeon and completing it for you. I know nothing of scripting, but I am sure you could have it keep track of how long ago each character completed the quest, and not allow them to enter if they are in breach of the 4 (or was it 2) hour rule.. Could you not also have it level adjust the monsters to the strength of the party? I think all in all this would give the developers a lot more control over who is going where, and why.. even how. Even make the juicy areas have a minimum amount of party members, forcing the grinders to form parties, and therefore (hopefully) have to learn to RP.
Back to the topic of grinders.. I have been RPing since the early days of NWN1, as I am sure there are many others out there that are the same if not longer.. But think back to how good you were at RP back when you first started out, then realize that there are many people that are just starting out now, learning the ropes.. There are a lot of know it all's out there that I have seen many times (quite rudely) OOC correct other players on mistakes they are making. I think all the experienced RPers need to take a deep breath, relax, and try to correct the less experience players IC.. They will learn, and you will develop a relationship with them through it.. And they will be more willing to try again, instead of just saying screw it, I am not going to talk just go kill stuff
Example: Right when I first started in NWN1, I walked up to another character whom I never met before and said "hello (his name)". He RPed great suprise and curiosity as to how I knew his name.. I did my best to get myself out of the mistake I made, learnt my lesson, and gained a friend... as did he.
Anyways, I have babbled enough... Your only way to get everone on the server involved in the RPing is to make it fun for everyone, not just the know it all's

Nobody is right all the time, so don't assume.
