Reinamar Stormseeker - The bladestorm that must turn back the wind. Arkerym of The People, practitioner of the forgotten art, pariah.
Tyler Penleigh - Obligatory author insert, Red Blade Defender, sarcastic jerk, caring brother, loving fiancé, war criminal.

Eirimil Gaelazair (Dead)- Bitter. Caustic. Abrasive. Egocentric. Probably right. Found dead in the burned-out Viridale forest a few weeks after the survivors were able to sweep the area after the Bloodmaim offensive. Aside from his usual attire, an intricate music box was the only thing in his possession.

*holds up hands* "People people! No need to agrue! You can all have you cake and eat it too!"
The solution is local client side. No reason to force everyone to your way of thinking. Everyone can have things as they want. I'm always against it when the few want to force their will upon the many.

There are two override haks that I've been using for so long I assumed that everyone did. Together they both make Buffs less annoying while making spell effects more beautiful and speeding up frame rates.
Less Obtrusive Spell Buffs
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view...s.Detail&id=12
Tired of the "buff ball" graphics? They obstruct your view, and also reduce your framerate.
This mod doesn't remove them entirely - it simply tones them down. You'll still see an indication that the spell is on, but you don't have to give up drive cam mode for lack of visibility.
Light Emitter in Spell Effects
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view...s.Detail&id=19
This VFX pack modifies certain spells within the game, allowing them to emit actual light as opposed to a non-light emitting glow effect. I always found it odd that several types of spells that you would think would emit light (like a fireball spell, or lightning, or magic missle, etc) do not. This VFX pack is my attempt to correct that, and in a manner that has the least performance impact, while preserving a realistic look to suit the spell effect modified.

I personally think the version of Mirror Image is cool. But too annoying to see around. So I get rid of it by. Deleting the file in the override.
Sneaky. Is there a file actually called MirrorImageFX or something?
*goes to check*
sa_mirrorimage_4.bbx
LOL.
Yes, you can just delet that file and go back to the NWN2's version.

If both haks where part of the Install for Sunder client installer. It would solve much of the issue of Buff Lag at large events. Believe me these Haks are beautiful AND speed up frame rates around spell effects.
The Size of both Haks is under 800k. Would be so easy to sneak into the Sundren Installer.
With the edit to fix Mirror Image.

The description of the overrides brings a question to mind (maybe this would make a good poll): do you use strategy mode or character mode, or switch between them? why?
I love the view from character mode, but find it irritating to try to turn the camera to click on something (especially a moving something, especially if that moving something is an enemy). How do you deal with that?

I personally don't mind the bubble effects... as in, I don't like them, but if I had to make a choice I'd prefer them over the skin effects. The skin effects are just ugly.-Arcanist Josirah Caranos, Red Wizard of Thay

how can a field "appear" and not be seen. The word appear suggests its visibility to others.Originally posted by Tildryn View PostActually...it doesn't say that. It just says 'A magical field appears around you, causing enemies to suffer a 20% chance to miss you with ranged attacks.'
Field can be (and is usually/should be) invisible.

Alright, you go ahead and enjoy your ugly, UGLY visual effects. Would you like to have Protection From Alignment's overdone flowery effect back too?
Meanwhile, I've taken the non-obtrusive spell buffs override, which doesn't negate the shield of faith effect incidentally, which is one of the worst, and homebrewed my own additions to it. Including killing the horrendous Shield of Faith effect. Unfortunately this means that others can still see it if they don't have the override.
Incidentally, Entropic Shield was invisible in NWN1. As was Shield of Faith, except for a few sparklies above one's head.

You aren't constantly surrounded with them! Spellcaster playing people sometimes don't see their character for an hour or moreOriginally posted by rustediron View PostI want the BGII mirror image... it actually made 8 copies of yourself! or was it 4...
and I LOVE bubbly effects! what's wrong with them?
.
And yeah, the BG2 mirror image was cool.

I actually meant the warlock's entropic field which mimics entropic shield.Originally posted by Tildryn View PostActually...it doesn't say that. It just says 'A magical field appears around you, causing enemies to suffer a 20% chance to miss you with ranged attacks.'

Agreed with Rhifox, when it comes to buff effects, in NWN2 less is more. =XFather Perry - "...great, not only do rats carry disease but apparently they explode into a fiery ball of flame.?"

If making 8 duplicate copies of a model had no lag on graphics whatsoever I think that would be something expected from Obsidian.Originally posted by rustediron View PostI want the BGII mirror image... it actually made 8 copies of yourself! or was it 4...

I was disappointed of how they handled the mirror image graphics in nwn2 (darkens your pc's model and makes glowling globes spin around...) and I was really angry at how they changed the look from magic missles from BG.
I loved those red glowy orbs, they should've kept that part (which they almost did because I think I saw it in a preview of nwn1 where MM was red glowy orbs) but instead they go and ruin it giving it a PORMD look. *end rant*

Part of the reason I am reluctant to remove ALL spell effects is,
1) People will get confused by the sudden DR and no effect with it and I'll get messages like "OMG WHY AM I NOT DAMAGING THIS GUY?!"
2) Without magic detecting spells that you would have in P&P, sometimes wizards HAVE to look at people and see what they have on them for RP.
3) Magic becomes boring without some effects. Auras of shadow and flame can be cool. Giant globes of flashing global grids is ugly and distracting.
