  • A blade once evil purified to do good.

Being a paladin in-game and enjoying RPing, I'd like to see a way to purify a Rot Blade into a more formidable weapon, perhaps a paladin type blade maybe called a Light-forged Blade.

Perhaps make a quest where you have to obtain some form of purified water, pray over the blade x times, gather information about the process from a priest, and perhaps have a blacksmith look over the blade and a few other things to make it seem reasonable.

I'm not saying it even has to have good stats. I'd just like to be able to turn something once evil into something good from a RPing aspect. A blade to use to defeat evil and protect allies.

On a side note, is it possible to request such a thing through a DM for RPing purposes? (I'm new to the whole concept of trying to RP things into existance that aren't there normally as I know it's not easy for the DMs to do)

What the hell? sorry, I know this is in no way constructive, but I don't see why, if you want to make weapons, don't take a level in mage and get "Craft magical weapons and armour" or whatever the feat is called.

If you were going to type this, then you shouldn't bother posting it at all, really.

Additionally this has nothing to do with making items, but converting items from unholy to holy.

On topic, it's my opinion that if a weapon is unholy, all you can do is remove the taint from it and make it a normal weapon.
"Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man."

        Rustediron:

Um, because this is an RP server and this is for RP purposes?

To the OP, I don't see a special custom quest going in for it, but you could try to contact a DM about doing it.

Edit: And yes, what Kaldaris says makes some sense, likely removing the taint and then blessing it would be two totally separate processes...rather than an out and out conversion.

Unless, of course, it was a holy weapon originally that has been corrupted by the forces of evil!

I'll make it easy on you. We've had this request about 10 times. Every single time, we take the weapon, purge it of all it's properties, and you get back a normal weapon, just like Kaldaris said.

If an item is evil, taking away the evil just makes it an item. If you want to bless a weapon, well, that's a whole other issue. You cannot convert evil to good or good to evil for items. You can only nullify it.

Also, this should have been posted in the help forums, not as a suggestion.

I've read about such "weapon conversions" in the Pool of Radiance series (ah ye olde FR books). A vampire, presumably with magical abilities (it was 2nd edition back then), captured a blessed hammer of Tyr in a magical net, then took it to his hideout where he started slowly corrupting it, turning its blue glow into a dark red one. One of the book's heroes, a priest of Tyr, managed to purify the hammer with his faith when he stumbled upon it while assaulting the vampire's lair. It then immediately reverted to its holy powers (quite overpowered, like absorbing magic and even dragon breaths coming from evil sources. Ah FR books, when you hold us in your over-magical arms...).

Just to say that his suggestion isn't coming from nowhere and does not fall into dead horse territory either; I'd say it's a good idea for a questline, if a DM is interested in doing this with you and opposed players. Otherwise, in my opinion, it's probably not something that's going to happen soon, as it's a very precise feature that would only interest a handful of players.

EDIT: Ah, GBX's CoC was faster than me on this one. Listen to him.

The only way I could see that working is if the item had a willful essence. Then you're basically corrupting it's will. However, evil power has no will in itself. Rot blade definitely doesn't. My catch all response remains though. Evil can be purged, not changed.

If I played a paladin, and found the rot blade...from an RP perspective I wouldn't even sell the weapon, I'd toss it into the trash bin because I know it will be destored forever.

And you could roleplay the destruction. You could take it to the temple, say a few blessing over it (bless weapon), pray to your God, and then it is destroyed (putting it in trash can).

You could even bring in a couple priests (player characters) and roleplay it out.

Aaaah, well yes the book does refer to the hammer as an "artifact" so it probably carried a bit of divine will inside itself. For exemple it recognized that priest of Tyr and teleported to him wherever it was located when the priest needed it (aren't FR over the top or what). What you said would make a lot of sense anyway. ^_^

                        So no "reversing" magical weapons.

i actually rped out destroying a corrupt evil weapon before with players and dm help. hans tried to destroy the weapon using his weapon breaking technique which didnt work. so he just brought it to the temple of the triumvirate to get it destroyed/purified. you would have thought the priest there would send you to a quest to a volcano so you can cast the weapon into the fire or something. but he just took the sword and basically said, okay done.... not a very interesting or fun quest.
