Originally posted by LallendosKRS, Eric B, The Fat boys, shitty rap??? Oh, ok, I get it, you actually must think that rap always sounded like 5 cents, Ti 4200, and the like. If you don't get references like "Fear of a Black Planet", "Make 'em clap to this", and "Face Down, A$$ Up", well, I dunno....you missed out. I grew up when the music was split into guys creating, innovating, on a higher level, and guys like Too Short, Easy E, Ghetto Boyz, 2 Live Crew, and the like providing some amped up street hype.
Try looking up KRS One, Sir Mix A Lot, Eric B, Fat Boys, Bizmarkee, Beastie Boys, Rob Base, Ice T, I mean Rap and hip hop really took off in the 80s. By the mid- 90s, They went too mainstream. Run DMC got it accepted. Vanilla Ice...... was a death knell to the old school. The old school was part BS and posturing, and part reality lessons (Look to KRS and Ice T for some fine examples. "Fucking blue lights, read 'em their rights. Drama."
My personal favorite music: Bands that play real music on real instruments. I hosted and ran sound for over 100 live bands, and have the T-Shirts to prove it.
The Slackers
Against All Authority
Teen Idols
Skam Impaired
Flaw
The Revenants
Atom and his Package
Garrison
Blitzkrieg Sucker Punch
The Undead (Misfits Bass player's band)
Dead City Rejects
Cherub Scourge
Lagwagon
The list goes on.
Every missed note held close to my heart, every cracked cymbal an accomplishment, and every mosh pit injury treated as if they'd earned a purple heart.
R.I.P., Dan (Danimal, Drummer for the revenants) Keep the rhythm section alive in the afterlife.
