I don't know if I've asked this on these boards or not, but it's come up on another world. Is it possible to remove the bit that makes it only possible to advance in Perform on a bard level? That's not true to PnP, and I think it hinders roleplay of characters that would like to be able to sing / play / dance and are willing to spend completely wasted skill points on Perform.
While it -is- possible to just roll a Charisma check or untrained Perform check, let's face it: that's basically just down to a D20 roll, and even a huge CHA modifier can't influence it that much. Personally, I think that rolling Perform is stupid, especially after a given point, since a bard with 15 ranks is going to sound heavenly even if an insect flies into his throat, but it seems expected sometimes for people to use DMFI.
I don't think it'd be inpinging on the uniqueness of Bards, either. They're the only ones who can get it as a class skill, and with the Heroism series, Eagle's Splendor and Inspire Competence, they're going to be the best at it, flat-out.
And I think it bears mentioning that right now Perform is about as useless as Appraise for everyone else; an RP-only skill with few actual applications in anything like a combat situation.
Thoughts?
