  • General Pawn Shop

Apologies if there is one and I haven't found it yet, but I'd suggest a general pawn shop. I understand the desire for realism in having different artisans producing different types of items, and don't mind going to different places to buy them. I also don't mind so much that different shops only buy the sort of stuff they produce.

But it would be nice if there was a convenient place to unload stuff after wandering around in the wilds for awhile so I can get back to RPing or adventuring instead of looking at the loading screen while I go from merchant to merchant. I'd even be willing to sell for a lower price to someone who saved me the hassel (which, I suppose, would reflect a certain degree of realism). Is there such an NPC?

I wouldn't object to this if the buy rate was low. The shops need work for sure.

There actually is an equivalent. Think long and hard about who in the FRverse would be able to find buyers for a wide range of possibly illegal stuff, with special emphasis on magical gear.

      Also, ask around. ^_^

Not the same thing, Rak. This is more of a legit tradesman.

At the risk of spoilers, the outfit I'm talking about is legit and sponsored by the government, even if many don't like them very much.

I assume you're talking about Thayans. It's fine insofar as it goes, but I'm not conerned with unloading illicit or hard-to-find goods (or buying them). It's that after a couple hours of adventuring with folks, I have a backpack full of melee weapons, ranged weapons, metal armor, non-metal armor, scrolls, potions, jewelry, etc., all of which have an individual vendor in town and none of which is worth much.

The payoff:time/annoyance ratio to hike around town and sit through loadscreens isn't great. I'd be happy to take a little loss and sell it to an NPC running a little shop outside the city gates to avoid the hassel. For RP purposes, assume the guy outside the gates resells my gear to the shop owners for a litle more than he bought them for from me and lives off the profits.

Now, if I were coming back with rare or unusual loot, the payoff for taking the time to deal with individual shopowners (or grouping with a rogue or high diplomacy character to sell the fence in town or the Thayans) might be worth the time/annoyance. Actually, RPing the exchange with another PC playing a rogue would be kinda fun.

(I'm actually also of the opinion that one good general store that has all manner of weapons, armor and healing kits is better than four separate shops, to favor streamlining the gameplay experience over the realism that most leather tanners can't beat a ploughshare into a sword, but I pick my battles)
