  • Get rid of garbage drops...

I don't know about the rest of you folks but I can't stand seeing endless loot bags sitting around the server. Most of which are filled with raw meat (no doubt rotting by now) or spoons and the like. I always pick them up (I believe they cause lag), and carry the junk around until I can find a place to dump it, but I wonder if it wouldn't make a whole lot more sense to just get rid of the present 'treasure' system and either drop nothing, or something that can be sold/used?

If I remember right the meat can be sold after its cooked over a camp fire.

I've said it a million times and this can be found using the search feature, loot bags don't lag the server, we have cleanup scripts that will remove them after a period of inactivity in the area. It's fine.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

perhaps they don't cause lag when they are cleaned up, but I personally notice a frame rate hit when there are more than 10 loot bags in an area (perhaps its the particle effect), it makes my game jumpy (which sometimes is easily mistaken as lag). I've tried turning down the effects with a client side override that dumps most spell effects, but I still notice the 'baglag'. Sorry if this doesn't agree with your research, but I can only go with what I see happening on my system. Also the areas with the most bags (the Hills) always seem to have someone there, even if they are just hanging by the campfire with the miners so I doubt the cleanup script gets a chance to fire.

Are you sure the clean up script works? I've seen lot bags in the some place with the same loot after returning 30 minutes later.

Perhaps add some garbage barrels around the camps and such so that we can pick up the garbage drops and get rid of them. I too have seen bags laying around for what seems a long time. just my 2cents worth

I'm sure. I see the areas people go to, and they aren't full of bags as much as this thread claims.

We also get a DM message every time an area is cleaned up. I know it's working. It may not work how the players think it does though.

Basically, so areas aren't cleaning up all the time (And hogging CPU) when an area is first entered, it's flagged as Dirty, regardless of what happens inside. A timer is then spawned off and when this timer completes, if people are still in the area, it spawns off again until eventually it's empty and it'll clean it up. Then the cleanup goes away and the area isn't qued for cleanup until someone enters again.

One thing I don't know if it's in there or not, is the cleanup script used to get rid of hostile spawns too, so that a dungeon can be reset for adventurers when it's empty. I don't know I have that in this Sundren iteration or not.

What I'm also going to be doing (An idea that came to me 2 days ago) is a button DMs can click that will cleanup on the spot, regardless of who is in the area. I mean, if people are sitting around Sharahan campfire, then there's not a big reason to not have a DM just purge the lootbags.

Also, the meat the goblins drop can be cooked and becomes useful at this point. The loot system is slowly being reworked, and if you noticed lately, things like chests have useful loot in them and such. It'll only get better over time. Not to mention, some of what is garbage loot should be sellable which I'll be looking into. I mean, if a helmet drops, even though it's not magical, Foulbreath should still at least give a coin or so for it. I mean, people still wear helmets in the real world, even if they have no stats.

I might be wrong here, but
I had picked up a few items such as helmets, gloves, etc that have a zero value and can't be sold.

                    That's my point.

                      "BagLag" = Dynamic shadows

Kill the shadows and the bags shouldn't give you the "chug" effect or power attack your framerate
                      Don't run...you'll only die tired.

While on the subjects of bags:
Bags of holding (all degrees) would be wonderful. Or something similar.
There's a thin line between the definition of genius and insanity; I cross it all the time.
